DAILY LESSON PLAN IN PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2 (HUMSS A&B, TVL EIM AND GAS)

Content: Planning Data Collection and Analysis

Time Allotment: 1:50 hours (December 4-8, 2023)

Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of:
1. Quantitative research designs
2. Description of sample instrument development
3. Instrument development
4. Description of intervention
5. Data collection and analysis
6. Guidelines in writing

Performance Standard
The learner is able to describe adequately quantitative research designs, sample,
instrument used, intervention, data collection, and analysis procedures.

Learning Competency
Plans data collection procedure (CS_RS12-IIa-c-5).

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learner should be able to:

● Identify the different data collection methods for quantitative research.

● Evaluate the selected data collection method in a quantitative research.
● Apply appropriate data analysis based on the data collection method used.

- Powerpoint presentation
- Laptop
c. Strategies
- Lecture - Discussion
- Think – Pair – Share
- Cooperative and Collaborative Learning

III. Learning Tasks/Procedures

a. Preliminary Activities
- Classroom Management
- Checking of Attendance
Lesson Proper
b. Motivation
Let the students answer the question How can we ensure that the data collection
method is appropriate for the research study?

c. Activity

Analyze the sample checklist given. Explain how or how not the checklist is quantifiable
and state how the checklist can be improved.

Brilliant Minds Preschool Student Checklist

___ Can identify the colors properly
___ Can follow simple instructions
___ Can write their own name
___ Identifies all the phonological sounds of the alphabet
___ Can match uppercase and lowercase letters
___ Can recite the alphabet song without difficulty

d. Abstraction

After the activity, the students reflect on their responses about the lesson. A questionnaire
is composed of a written list of item questions wherein the participants can answer
independently.

Experiment

● An experiment is designed to test hypotheses under controlled conditions and

involves the manipulation of variables.
● Three types of experiments: laboratory, field, and natural.

Quantitative Observation

● Observation is a process wherein researchers purposely or selectively watch or

listen to an occurring interaction or phenomenon.
● Quantified by using rating scales and checklists.

Quantitative Interview

Quantitative interviews are also called standardized interviews or survey interviews because of
their similarity to a survey’s question-and-answer format.

Evaluating Data Collection Methods

● Data collection procedure must be ethical.

● Data collection procedures must be standardized.
● Identify how the researchers reduced threats.
Introduction to Data Analysis and Hypothesis Testing

Quantitative data analysis is a powerful tool that is often associated with large-scale
research.

Scales of Data

of the three scales above are also
found in the interval scale.

Descriptive and Inferential Statistics

Descriptive

simply summarizes the data by presenting it into more manageable bits.

Inferential

enables researchers to test their hypotheses and conduct regression analysis

Numerical data from quantitative research can be analyzed or performed using

computer programs.

Hypothesis Testing

● Hypothesis testing allows researchers to test their assumptions.

● The two types of hypotheses are the null hypothesis and the alternate
hypothesis.

Data collection methods must be evaluated by its ethical considerations,

standardization, and how the researchers reduced threats to their data.

The scales of data arranged according to complexity are nominal, ordinal, interval, and
ratio scale.

e. Application

Suggested Activity:
Choose one journal article that you have used for your research study. Take note that it should
be relevant to your academic strand. Then, fill in each steps as indicated on the slide.
Step 1: Data Collection Procedure

Step 2: Indicators of a Good Data Collection Procedure

Step 3: Data Analysis

f. Assessment
Identify the Data Collection Method

Lyn is a developmental psychologist who wants to study the effects of early exposure to
gadgets of children ages one to three years old. She developed a tool to note remarkable
behaviors of her participants.

Athena uses e-commerce to sell beauty products. She wanted to know how satisfied her
customers are when it comes to the service they provide and the quality of their products. She
prefers to use an online tool where her customers can respond on their own.
