Trade Project

This document appears to be a project proposal for an engine trolley created by 5 students - John Wasonga, Andayi Amos, Kelvin Thuo, Samuel Thuku, and Evans Odhiambo. It was submitted to the Kenya National Examination Council for the award of a Craft Certificate in Automotive Engineering. The project aims to develop an engine trolley to easily transport heavy engine blocks. The modified trolley has caster wheels that allow it to turn 360 degrees, making it easier to move engine blocks compared to existing trolleys. The proposal includes chapters on introduction, literature review, methodology, and conclusions/recommendations. It was carried out under the supervision of Mr. Kuria at NYS Turbo

ABSTRACT
This project aims of developing an engine trolley for easy transportation of heavy loads
specifically engine blocks from one point to another. The need for such a mechanism arises
from day to day activities in our workshops.
Devices such as engine trolley are used to relieve the stress of carrying heavy loads on flat
grounds, however these devices usually fails when it comes to carrying the load over short
spaces .In light of this the project attempts to design a system that carry the blocks
manually,it also endeavours to study the commercial viability and importance of such a
product.
In our project the trolley is equipped with caster wheels which enables us to move both front
and back enabling the user to consume less time in transporting the engine block. The trolley
also helps in moving engine blocks in irregular surfaces like holes, bumps etc.
CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION
The project is about modifying an engine trolley, this engine trolley has a workpiece made of
a black sheet that is mounted on the angle line frame .
The trolley can move forward and backwards by the use of caster wheels that moves in a
360° direction.

1.1 BACKGROUND
This trolley is existing but we have modified it. The existing device has only caster wheels
that are fixed and move in one direction but on our modified trolley caster wheels are not
fixed hence enable one to turn the trolley in a 360° direction without using alot of energy to
transport the engine blocks.

1.2 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The objectives are;
a) To make work easier for the mechanics.
b) To provide a great degree of flexibility.
c) To increase the stability and retention of workpiece.
d) To hold engine blocks when being worked on.

1.3 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This engine trolley will be used to hold engine blocks and create workspace for the engine
blocks during repair and check ups.

1.4. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This project study comes with many benefits to the mechanics. This project should be of
interest to both researchers and developers as it can significantly contribute and enrich the
body of knowledge in implementing new and advanced engine trolley
