Organization of a Tour Operations Department
Definition and Type of Tour Guide
Tour Operator - travel agents who expand their product range by setting-up
- Mediator between suppliers of travel services

Reservation/clerk - handling the triad, accommodate the client upon entering the agency, he or she also

TOUR GUIDE
• is an individual who is licensed by the local government and accredited by the Department of Tourism
to guide tourist, both foreign and domestic, for a free, commission, or any other form of renumeration.
TYPE OF GUIDES
Urban guides - are those who take pleasure in telling story of a city of region.
Government guides - States, local and national governments employ guides to show their most
important historic, cultural, political and scenic facilities to visitors.
Driver-guides - Conduct tours driving motor coaches, vans or cars.
Business or industry guides - These guides are called upon to explain the company philosophy or
mission, thus they are trained in presentation skills or sales techniques.
Adventure guides - include mountaineering guides, bicycle guides, fishing guides and raffling guides. The
work of an adventure guides develops from a serious devotion to a sport or activity.
Tour Managers - Provide light commentary when there is no guide available. They are knowledgeable
because they function as both a tour manager and a guide.
Interpreters - Translator of foreign languages, who communicates by sign language
Escort interpreters - is one who accompanies foreign visitors who are officially invited by the
government. He is a well-educated linguist who travels with visitors throughout the country at least for
one month to translate for them.
Docents or Volunteer guides - They are found in most city and town, at visitors’ centers, museums,
historic houses, churches and other places that people usually visit.
