2023/2024 Admission Guidelines for International Degree Students

I. Application Schedule
Fall Semester: From February 1st to April 30th.
Spring Semester: From August 1st to October 31st.
II. Entry Requirements
International students who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply:
A. Nationality: An individual of foreign nationality who has never held the status of an Overseas
Chinese student on the date of application, and who complies with the “Regulations Regarding
International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan” of the Ministry of Education (MOE).
B. Qualification: International students with a high school diploma are eligible to apply for
undergraduate programs, a Bachelor’s degree for Master programs, and a Master’s degree for PhD
programs.
III. Application Procedures
A. Only on-line application, and please go on the website: [Link]
B. Please take note of the following:
1. Remember the email address, account and password you used for applying. You will need those
to log in to the system to modify application information and upload documents.
2. Download or print out the following documents which are automatically generated by the
system after you have completed the online application: application form, Deposition and
payment form or other required documents.
3. Comply strictly with the two steps below to complete payment and upload all the necessary
documents before the designated deadline. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of
your application. All losses thus incurred shall be borne by the applicant.
C. Application Fee Payment

4. After the payment is completed, no refund will be given. All related costs and exchange
differences shall be borne by the applicant. Please upload the “payment invoice/receipt” onto
the online application system.
5. Applications with unpaid application fees will not be processed.
D. After the application deadline, the departments will review all applicants’ documents. The result
will be announced on the website and informed by the email in the early of June for the fall
semester and in the early of December for the spring semester.
IV. Uploading Documents
A. All applicants shall upload the required documents to the online application system. The documents
may be uploaded separately and updated any time before the deadline. After uploading all the
documents, applicants will be asked to confirm the submission of the documents. Please go through
the documents carefully before confirming the submission. Applicants may not change the
submitted documents for any reason once they have confirmed submission. NTCU will only
process the documents last confirmed and submitted.
B. Required Certificates or Documents
1. A copy of diploma of the highest academic degree
2. A copy of Chinese or English translation of the diploma and a copy of the academic transcript,
authenticated by ROC representative offices abroad
3. A certified copy of the Chinese or English language Proficiency
4. A copy of passport or ID
5. Personal resume and autobiography in English or Chinese(about 1,000 words required by the
Department of English and Fine Arts; about 1,500 words required by the Department of
Education for the doctoral program
6. Study plan for bachelor programs / Research plan for graduate programs
7. A copy of financial statement, authenticated by ROC representative offices abroad (minimum:
100,000 NTD or US$3,300)
8. Payment invoice/receipt of application fee
9. Deposition: Please print out, sign and upload the signed copy back to the system.
10. Photograph: a close-up color shot of the head and shoulders (no hats)within the last 6 months.

Note 1: Applicants graduating in the current year may not have to upload a graduation certificate for
application. However, they shall, upon admission, submit their academic credentials on the
registration day for enrollment. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the admission
offer.
Note 2: High school graduates whose qualifications are equivalent to Taiwan’s high-school grade 5 may
apply for undergraduate programs. However, admitted students shall complete at least 12 extra
credits before graduation in accordance with relevant NTCU rules and regulations. The 12
credits are not included in the required credits for graduation.

2. The Department of Fine Arts
Work:Information of personal creative work: 8 pieces of art work, which be made at least by 2
different materials. (Present on 10"*8" photos to hand in). Those works should be manifested by
the instructors.
3. The Department of Music
(1) Work for major:A CD or DVD of personal performance for 30 minutes. For students major
in theory composer should hand in CD or DVD of personal performance and the
notation/music book of it for at least three performances. (Three copies)
(2) Work for minor:A CD or DVD of personal performance for 10 minutes. For students minor
in theory composer should hand in CD or DVD of personal performance and the
notation/music book of it for at least one performance. (Three copies)
(3) No matter major or minor, piano as one instrument.
(4) Those works should be manifested by the instructors.
V. Other Important Information
A. Program Duration
1. Undergraduate programs shall be completed within 4 to 6years.
2. Master programs shall be completed within 2 to 4 years.
3. Doctoral promgrams shall be completed within 3 to 7 years.
B. Accepted by NTCU, applicants can get tuition fee waived in the first year. From the second year,
international students should apply for the scholarship according to “NTCU Guidelines for
International Students Scholarship Application”.
C. Students can apply for admission to only one department/institute. Wherever applicable, the
applicants should take the written tests, interview, and/or technical tests as specified by each
department/institute concerned. The original copy of passport or other identification(s) should be
presented at the test.
D. The admission of international students to NTCU is conducted in compliance with “Regulations
Regarding International Undertaking Studies in Taiwan” of the Ministry of Education (MOE),
subject to any changes that may come into effect by the last day of application.
E. International students admitted to NTCU shall be revoked of their admission and/or dismissed from
NTCU if any of the following terms is violated:
1. Students who do not possess ROC nationality shall apply for admission to NTCU in the
capacity of either an overseas Chinese or a foreigner, but NOT in both capacities.
2. Students who are ex-ROC citizens shall not apply for admission to an ROC college or
university as international students within eight years after their ROC nationality is denied.
3. International students who are admitted to an ROC college or university but later dismissed by
the college of university shall not seek admission to another program of study in the same
capacity.
4. NTCU Students whose study is being suspended shall not apply for admission to the same
program of study in the same department/institute.
F. Diplomas and transcripts issued by schools overseas are subject to review in accordance with the
Ministry of Education’s Code Governing the Review of Overseas Educational Qualifications.
G. After the payment is completed, no refund will be given under any circumstance, including but no
limited to the withdrawal of application, failure to meet requirements, mistake in the payment and
double payment.
H. International students admitted to NTCU shall be revoked of their admission and/or dismissed from
NTCU if any defect is found in the applicants’ qualifications for application or in the authenticity of
the documents submitted. Those who have graduated shall have their diploma revoked.
VI. Registration
A. Admitted students shall be present at the university for registration on the date specified by
presenting the original copy of passport, diploma, and the Chinese or English translation of school
transcripts authenticated in ROC representative offices abroad (for authentication purpose only, will
be returned immediately), or the status of admission shall be revoked. Those who have not had their
documents authenticated by the time of application shall present the authenticated documents to the
Office of Academic Affairs, within one month after the application result is announced, or the status
of admission shall be revoked. Applicants who are going to graduate in the end of this school year
shall have the documents reviewed by the Office of Academic Affairs before registration, or the
status of admission shall be revoked.
B. The admitted students should, following Article 22 of “MOE Regulations Regarding International
Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan”, provide proof of medical and personal accidental
insurance papers insured outside ROC with validity from entering ROC up to at least six months
upon enrollment. If already being insured at the national health insurance of ROC, the enrolled
students only need to provide proof of the related insurance papers. The above-mentioned insurance
papers issued outside ROC should be verified by ROC representative offices abroad.
C. Transfer credits from other colleges/universities shall be governed by related regulations of NTCU.

Introduction
The Department of Education has a rich history of developing specializations and programs related to
educational practice and leadership. In 1987, the Department of Education began to offer a four-year
undergraduate program of primary education. In 1992, the graduate institute for master degree of
education was approved, and later the docatoral program since 2000. Currently, the Department of
Education is composed of a certificate program for undergraduates, four graduate programs for master
degree and one dorctoral degree program.
Since the mission of the Department of Education is to prepare students for pursuing their
professional goals as certificated elementary school teachers as well as educational specialists. Therefore,
those who enter the programs are requested to create, reflect, and advance their knowledge and
professional practice experiences in teaching and learning. This mission is accomplished through many
strategies, such as micro-teaching, practicum, and modeling. One of our goals is to provide students with
knowledge, skills, and experiences to perform successfully as leaders in educational field.
The certificate program is for undergraduates which prepares students to teach in schools and other
relevant careers in education. Students are licensed to teach in elementary schools after passing their
national examination and intern. The program, after a selective admission process, also accepts graduate
students to pursue their career in teaching.
Since the graduate programs offer the study in three areas: (1) general education (confer Master and
Doctoral degree), (2) curriculum and instruction (confer Master degree), and (3) educational
administration and management (confer Master degree). Students, in addition to be licensed teachers, may
pursue advanced faculty positions and leadership roles in education.
To sum up, students of the certificate program are eligible to take the national certificate examination
and obtain the teacher license to teach in schools. For graduate students, they may pursue works as
following:
 school teachers, administrators, or principals;
 governmental officers;
 researchers;
 teachers of after-school programs;
 instructional designers of in-service training programs in enterprise or human resources-related
agencies.

Introduction
The Department of Special Education at National Taichung University of Education was founded in 1993.
We provide programs for preparing teachers in areas of special education (including gifted education) and
offer educational resources that support the cultivation of prospective teachers and professionals
specialized at special education and assistive technology, such as, assessment and identification batteries,
audio/visual equipment, multimedia, and an abundant book and teaching material collection. We also
provide special education consultation services for teachers and parents in Central Taiwan.
Our department currently has 10 full-time faculty members who have expertise in a variety of areas
including gifted education, teaching children with mental and physical disabilities, and assistive
technology for persons with special needs. All of our faculty members have PhD degrees of expertise in
special education or assistive technology.
● Curriculum Planning
The undergraduate Curriculum: We offer licensed programs for cultivating special education and gifted
education teachers of preschool and elementary school. A student must complete a minimum of 148
credits by taking courses in general education, professional education, special education specialization,
and other electives to fulfill graduation requirements.
●Master’s Curriculum: To fulfill graduation requirements, a master’s student must complete a minimum of
32 credits and pass a thesis examination.
●Career Development:
Graduates who are interested in academic research in Special Education, Communication Disorders,
Rehabilitation and Counseling, Counseling Psychology, and other education related fields, may pursue
higher degrees in Taiwan or abroad.
●By passing the teacher certification examination and screen test, graduates of our department can work in
special education, gifted education, or regular education classrooms.
●By passing national examinations for officers, our students can work in education administration offices
or other government institutions.
●Our graduates can work in private educational companies, social welfare organizations, early
intervention, assistive technology, etc.

Introduction
The Department of Physical Education was established in 1998. A master’s program was added in 2005,
and a post-service master’s program was further established in 2011. Since the Department has been
established, the main objective of the Department has been to acquire excellent teachers of physical
education in elementary schools. In line with the university’s reform, the Department made a major change
in 2008. The “Sports and Health Management” courses were added to the undergraduate curriculum, to
foster professional personnel in relation to sports and leisure
management and sports health care. Since then, the Department’s curriculums have been transformed into
the two-track system, namely, teacher and non- teacher education.
A class of students has been recruited for each undergraduate level. The admission system has three kinds
of entrance: the review of students with good athletic performance, college entrance exams with a physical
technical exam, and college admission (including the recommended plan of the Ministry of Education and
application for admission with sport or non-sport specialty). Students of the Department have diverse
characteristics. On one hand, students are good at various sports, such as canoeing, tennis, tchoukball,
basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, handball, swimming, track and field, water ballet, Chinese
yoyo, dragon and lion dance, cycling, and so on. On the other hand, some non-sport specialized students
which have excellent academic abilities are also recruited. The enrollment measures of the Department are
aimed at creating a mutual learning and mutually driven educational environment.
The master’s course is divided into two groups, including “Sports Sciences” and “Sports Social Sciences”.
The goal of the program is to cultivate sports sciences and sports social research personnel. The
establishment of post-service education courses is aimed at providing more learning opportunities for
sports professionals and enriching their knowledge of physical education. In addition, the Department
provides a “consecutive bachelor’s and master’s program”, which allows excellent undergraduate students
a direct path toward studying for a bachelor’s and a Master’s Program.

Introduction:
The Department of Early Childhood Education was founded in 1992. The mission of the department of the
early childhood education offers programs designed to assist prospective early childhood professionals for
Taiwan early childhood teacher certification as well as endorsement for provide in-services training for
field teachers to enhanced professional development of early childhood education. The Graduate Program
in Early Childhood Education, focus on the researches of early childhood education related issues as well
as to advance students’ skill and ability on research. In 2011, the Graduate Institute of Early Intervention
along with Experimental Center of Early Intervention was unified and became a program under the
department of early childhood education. After the merger, the department became the only academic unit
in Taiwan with both early intervention and early childhood education.
Course planning:
The bachelor programs in our department embedded the variety of teaching and teaching assessment
method in our early childhood pre-services and early childhood care professional curriculum. In addition,
curriculum design and teaching, early intervention, arts, languages, theories of basic education, and
professional conservation courses. Furthermore, through professional planning, electives course of early
childhood education are available for students every semester in order to improve their interest and expend
their specialty area. Students in the department may also applied for join degree program which means
completed both bachelors and Master program within five years, student in the senior years can start the
start master level course. The master degree courses in our department included core courses and
specialized courses. The core courses are divided into two groups which included basic theory and
research methods. In order to have graduate student diligent their professional competence, early
childhood educational research and management, professional leadership and reflective critical thinking
skills, and increasing graduate students’ international perspectives and innovative research and
development capabilities are the goals for this master program. Based on the design of the master program
of early childhood education, the curriculum of master program of early intervention comprises integration
and learning research across three areas which included medical rehabilitation, special education, and
social work. The research methods and theories necessary for joining the research phase are composed of
the same.
Work outlet and Development:
Student need to completed all course within four years of schooling. Student who are interest to work as a
preschool teacher first need to past the national pre-school teaching certification exam, along with six
months’ student teaching. Early childhood education related career path such as early childhood literature
creation and publications, early childhood music education, early childhood art education, early childhood
physical education, or engaged in preschool education related industries. Student who are interest in
research and in depth professional development may apply for entrance examination into early childhood
education related graduate institutes or further their studies abroad. Graduates from graduate of early
intervention program can work as early intervention specialist based on the professions that the students’
undergraduate work for example pre-school teacher, early childhood special education teacher, social
worker, and therapies. Student also will competent enough to supervise early intervention related work in a
county or city government. In particular, in planning and execution, whether social welfare, medical
rehabilitation, early childhood special education or early childhood education, students will be able to play
to their strengths and achieve outstanding performance in the workplace.

Introduction
The Graduate Institute of Educational Information and Measurement (GIEIM) renamed from the Graduate
Institute of Educational Measurement and Statistics (GIEMS) which was established in 1997. It is not only
the first academic research institute concerning educational measurement in Taiwan, but also in Asia, and
pioneers the cultivation of educational measurement researchers. The main research directions of the
institute are “Development of new educational measurement theories”, “Computerized adaptive testing
and learning”, “Cognitive neuroscience studies”, “Big data analysis for education”, and “Intelligent
learning technology”.
GIEIM provides “Doctor Program”, “Master Program”, and “In-service Master Program”. The doctor
program covers a number of fields including applied statistics, measurement, evaluation, educational
information, and research methods such as qualitative and quantitative research methods. The full-time
and in-service M.A. programs both are designed to provide individuals with a broad range of three skill
fields, including statistics, measurement and assessment, and educational information.
Moreover, the faculties of our institute had grand research projects supported by Ministry of Science and
Technology (MOST) of Taiwan in the past, and got many industry-university cooperation projects based
on their outstanding research outcomes. Through the conduction of industry-academic cooperation by the
institute, further steps have been taken towards our goal of development collaboration with the educational
industry. In the future, distinguished students of the institute may join the education industry. In addition,
graduates of the institute can join the professional organizations of test and evaluation, such as the
National Academy for Educational Research (NAER), the Research Center for Psychological and
Educational Testing (RCPET), the Digital Education Institute (DEI) in the Institute for Information
Industry, etc. Furthermore, some students may apply to continue their studies at this institute or any other
domestic doctoral programs in the fields of education, statistics, psychometric, information engineering
and electrical engineering according to their research interests.

Introduction
The Department of International Business was established in 2008. The objectives of this department are
to foster senior managers with global perspective, who can take advantage of professional knowledge and
problem-solving skills to develop the talents for the advent of globalization economic era and the upgrade
of enterprises.
All the department faculty members have excellent backgrounds in education and practical experiences in
various industries so that they can provide students with the teaching full of practical theories and case
studies. Through a variety of case studies, students can develop aggressive thinking and communication
abilities to increase the learning efficiency.
The curriculum design mainly includes the following three programs: 1. International Business and
Marketing; [Link] Finances and Investment.; 3. Innovation and Electronic. These programs aim
to develop students’ interests and management abilities. Through a variety of case studies, students can
develop aggressive thinking and communication abilities to increase the learning efficiency. In order to
improve the competitiveness of students, the Department of International Business delivers courses to help
students pass the examinations of international certificates and obtain the qualification of second language
acquisition. Meanwhile, the Department provides chances for exchange students, enforces students’ global
perspective, and equips students’ professional in the international market for Taiwan.
In the future, the university plans to incorporate the resources from all four colleges to promote a 5-year
program which makes possible of completing a bachelor and a master degree within 5 years. Hopefully,
the international undergraduate students with outstanding performance will pursue their advanced study
with NTCU.

Introduction
Our Department was established in 2008 as the Department of Cultural and Creative Industries, and then
renamed as what it is in 2012. The characteristics of cultural and creative industry, indeed, are new outputs
with “interdisciplinary and allogamous” ingredients originated from accumulated cultural knowledge and
value-added design. Therefore, in 2009, we built up the Cultural and Creative Design Center for the
purposes of better communications with the industries as well as the cultivation of professionals in the
design of cultural creative products and the operation of the industry. In 2011, we launched Floral Village
of Rippling Liǔchuān for Creative Arts as an experimental operation locus for promoting the training of
crafts and skills. In 2013, we went further to transform the Village into the University’s Innovation
Incubation Center, devoting ourselves to cradling a headquarter for cultural and creative industry in central
Taiwan. Ever since the inauguration of Master Program of Business Administration in 2014, we have been
striving for value-added developments through the reengineering of design and design management. By so
doing, we hope to, step by step, strengthen the energy of cultural creativity and operating management as
well as cultivate professionals specialized in marketing, human resources and knowledge management.
Meanwhile, we also started to offer Continuing Education Graduate Program for the potential integration
of career, industry and scholarship.

Introduction
The Graduate Program of Sustainable Tourism and Recreation Management at National Taichung
University of Education, established in 2008 and renamed as the Graduate Program of Sustainable
Tourism and Recreation Management in 2010, is the first national graduate school of Tourism in western
Taiwan. Its establishment is integral to the development of the university, and its aim is to incorporate
related academic fields, so as to promote research in the fields of tourism and recreation and to develop
professional management talents in those fields.

Introduction
Master Program of Higher Education Management was established in 2012. It is the first program
focusing on the management of higher education in Taiwan. The program aims to increase graduate
students knowledge and experience of management of higher education, to promote the professional of
staff in universities, and to cultivate experts at managerial level which cater to higher education
requirements. The program places main focus on a wide range of study domains, involving theories and
new issues of higher education, the higher education systems and policies in developing countries, and
problems of Taiwan higher education. The future direction of the program is to cultivate talents in order to
strengthen the governance of higher education. Besides, the program provides revitalizing opportunities
for in-service staff to promote their professional capacities and service quality.

Introduction
University:Established at 1899, National Taichung University of Education (NTCU) has witnessed the
social and economic development of Taiwan over decades. The core values of NTCU are “refinement,
creativity, and new prospect” which act as guiding principles to educate our graduates to be a “whole
person”. Currently, there are four colleges in the university: College of Education, College of Humanities,
College of Sciences, and College of Management. All of the faculty members in the College of

Introduction
The department, formerly known as the mathematics division, was renamed the “Department of
Mathematics Education” in [Link] aims of the department are to produce school teachers, and cultural /
educational workers with professional mathematics education backgrounds. The Department of
Mathematics Education offers three degree programs: a bachelor’s program, a master’s program, and a
professional development program for in-service persons. All full-time faculty members in the
department hold doctoral degrees in their areas of expertise. In recent years, the focus of the department
has been to integrate mathematics, education, and technology, in order to develop a new trend –
mathematics education with learning technology. Enrolled students can select courses in four areas:
mathematics education, mathematics, educational measurement and statistics, and information technology.

Introduction
The features of the department curriculum focus on the demand for information technologies
development. Under the well-established curriculum, the department expects to cultivate professional
information talents who are able to work independently on researches and practical affairs.
The research covers networking and communication systems, information security, Internet telephony,
wireless networks, mobile communications, software engineering, multimedia technology, intelligent
systems, software quality and testing, embedded systems, computer systems, parallel processing and cloud
computing, etc. The specialties and expertise of the teaching faculty encompass the disciplines of software
engineering and communication network techniques in computer science, respectively.
The department has past the accreditation of engineering and technology education programs in Taiwan
from the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET). The IEET engineering and technology
education programs have also been recognized by the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Britain,
Ireland, South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and etc. This will further broaden
our students’ international view.
The department is very active in co-operating with research institutes and industries to increase students’
practical experience which will cultivate our students with both theories and practices.

Introduction
The Department of Digital Content and Technology was established on August 1, 2005 offering bachelor’s
and master’s programs. Since August 1, 2007, the Department has offered an in-service Master’s Program
to people who have already been employed in related fields. This is to match up the medium to long-term
development plan of the University and the government’s development plan. The main mission of the
Department is to develop students’ abilities for digital content industry.
Nine teaching staffs in the Department are competent in both the theory and practice of their respective
research fields including information engineering, visual design, e-Learning, etc. Our curriculum
emphasizes the interdisciplinary integration with equal weight given to theory and practice. The
department regards students’ self-directed learning, placement experiences and graduate projects as
imperative. With four years of training that combines academia with industry, our graduates are
well-equipped and highly competitive in the future labor market.
Graduates of the Department can choose to study at graduate institutes or are employed in digital content
industry. Possible institutes include those offering information management, information and
communication, information and computer engineering, information science, communication technology,
toy and gaming design, multimedia animation arts, etc. The following list maps out potential employment
opportunities:
1. Integration-related: case managers, project managers, and managers in the creative industry.
2. Learning-related: e-learning material developers, administrators for educational websites, and
instructors on various software and hardware.
3. Information-related: network service engineers, database management technicians, interactive games

Introduction
I. Features: The expertise of our thirteen faculties spreads over the areas of science, science education and
environmental education. We have a lot of advanced scientific instruments for research and instruction.
Now we have an undergraduate program, a master program for science education and application, and a
master program for environmental education and management. We are advocated to integrate the
knowledge and skills of science, science education and environmental education in order to construct a
high-quality environment for learning and research. The aim of our department is to foster outstanding
persons having inter-discipline abilities in science and science education, such as competent science
teachers, science researchers, science communicators, designers for science games and toys, science
writers, and so on. We welcome the youth to join us to have fun in science and enjoy the wonder of
learning by doing.
II. Curriculum: While the curriculums of the undergraduate program are designed to provide a concrete
base for science and science education, those of the master program are for advanced developments. In
addition, the curriculums of the master program for environmental education and management contain
environmental educations in school, society and business.
III. Research: The researches of our department are directed to the areas of science education, applied
sciences, as well as environmental education.
IV. Honors: Our faculties are outstanding in both teaching and research. For example, Prof. C. C. Chin and
C.-C. Chen are honored as the distinguished professors of NTCU, who are also honored as the outstanding
scholars certified by the Ministry of Education. Furthermore, Prof. L. R. Hsu is the winner of the Golden
Tripod Awards awarded by the Ministry of Education due to his science popularization books published in
science games. Finally, many faculties were also honored as the outstanding scholars certified by the
Ministry of Science and Technology.

Introduction
This Department was formerly “The Department of Social Studies Education”, which aimed to cultivate
excellent elementary school teachers in social studies. In 2002, a Master’s Program was established and in
2006 a summer program for teachers’ continuing education was added. In recent years, this department has
been revising its goals and expanding its research domains to comply with the teacher training policy set
by the Ministry of Education and adapt to the social phenomenon of low birth rates. In 2010, the name of
the department was formally changed to “The Department of Regional and Social Development”.
The unique feature of the curriculum is the dual focus on “Area” and “Development”. The “Area” domain
has been divided into “Regional development” and “Global development”, as history and geography are
combined with the concept of regional development. The “Development” domain is divided into “Social
Development” and “Community Building” by integrating knowledge of social sciences with the regional
concept rooted in communities and the development of people and communities.
Career Development:
1. Regional planning: To engage in the work related to urban-rural regions and community development
planning
2. Teaching: To acquire credits of elective courses on education, to serve as elementary school teachers
3. Research and writing: To engage in researches on regional development, explanations for Community
Building, or the work of compiling and writing histories and literatures

Our department, starting to recruit students in 2004, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. We
have nine full-time teachers, and every teacher has very outstanding achievements in academic research
and teaching performance.
In addition to the liberal and education-related curriculum, there are 45 credits of compulsory classes
for all students of the department, and there are 96 credits of elective classes which are divided into
two groups:(1) Language & Language-Teaching Group-25 credits, and (2) Literature & Culture
Group-25 credits.
After two years of well-rounded training at NTCU, our graduating students will have the career
development skills such as:
1. Further Study: Our students may further their education by enrolling in the doctoral degree in
Linguistics, Taiwanese Languages, Taiwanese Literature, Folklore, or Traditional Arts, etc.
2. Prospective Careers: The students who opt for the teacher training program will mostly become
elementary school teachers. Other students may pursue the following careers: academic
research, broadcasting, journalism, secretarial work, tourism, community service, culture
and art administration, writing or editing in the area of Taiwanese literature.
3. Examination: Our students are qualified to take examinations for civil service positions, tour
guides or tour management positions, etc.

Introduction
Department of Language and Literacy of Education was established in 1987, dedicated to cultivate talents
for language education. As of today, we had won the championship of National Mandarin Talent Contests
among Teachers Training Colleges in Taiwan for sixteen times, and awarded gold and silvers in Writing
Competition of Children’s Literature among Teachers Training College Students.
With our great success on cultivating students, we were granted to set up the first Master’s Program of
Language and Literacy Education in Taiwan in August, 2001 and the Doctoral Program in August, 2004.
We later started courses of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language and established the Master’s Program
of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language in August, 2012.
Curriculum:Undergraduate/Graduate
Courses in our department combine theory and practice. Courses for undergraduate students, such as
Children and Young-adult Literature; Writing, Listening, Speaking, Reading and Composing Education;
and Chinese Classic Reading, all provide theoretical and practical training. We also provide unique and
specialized courses such as Chinese Language Testing and multiple evaluation and Language
Courses:Design and Education. We are at the forefront in the field of native language education by
offering courses like Theory and Practice of Chinese Classics Reading and Reciting.
In our Master program, we emphasize the combination of theory and practice of language teaching, aiming
to foster students’ ability to do research and to teach.

Campus Life:
Department of Language and Literacy Education is a big warm family. Student Association holds a
welcome party for freshmen at the beginning of every new semester, helping new students to adapt to
university life.
A great variety of departmental activities are available for students. Our department holds children’s drama
and calligraphy exhibition on a regular basis, and provides elementary teaching practicums. Departmental
activities provide students with opportunities to experience every aspect of language and literacy
education.
Lectures:
We invite scholars and professors in different fields to lecture or demonstrate teaching skills every
semester. Through their expertise and experience, invited scholars expand students’ horizon and inspire
students to plan ahead for the future.

Introduction
Department of English: Undergraduate and Graduate Programs
The Department of English was established in 2005. Our curriculum includes specialized English courses
such as English Language Teaching, Introduction to Linguistics, American and English Literature,
professional English courses, English teacher’s training courses and other general English courses. The
structure of our department’s courses is divided into two categories, including 28 credits for general
courses and 100 credits for professional courses.
The master program was established in 2016. The program focuses on applied English proficiency.
Students need to take at least 32 credits, including 11 compulsory and 21 elective credits. The program
assists in the department of English teaching and learning methodologies and practices at the primary
school level. The program also aims to prepare its students to become teacher of English in primary school
and to enter other professions that require a good command of English.
Undergraduates
Offer a comprehensive program in English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation.
Train talents in the use of foreign language.
Hold English activities and nurture students English and cross-culture proficiency.
Encourage students to participate in international collaborations to expand their international outlook

Department: Department of Counseling and Applied Psychology

The Department of Counseling and Applied Psychology was established on August 1, 2006 and was
merged with the Graduate Institute of Counseling and Educational Psychology (GICEP), which was
established in 2000. The department was approved by Ministry of Education, Taiwan. In 2013, an evening
master’s program designed for working professionals was established.
The undergraduate program can be completed with or without enrolling in the teacher education program.
Students need to complete 128 credits to graduate and students who also enroll in the teacher education
program need to complete 138 credits. There are 4 sections of the graduate courses: core, general,
scientific training and practice. Students need to complete 36 credits to graduate (core: 19 credits required;
general: at least 4 credits; scientific training: at least 4 credits; practice: at least 4 credits).
Our faculty includes 3 full professors,5 associate professors and 2 assistant professors, who all hold a
doctoral degree received in Taiwan or overseas. All faculty members’ research is related to counseling or
applied psychology. They all have their own specialty and have years of experience in teaching and
practice. Two of the faculty members received Outstanding Faculty Research Award from the Ministry of
Science and Technology. Many faculty members received research grants from the Ministry of Science
and Technology. Faculty members also serve as a director or a supervisor of academic associations.
There are many kinds of resources and facilities for teaching and learning in our department. We
incorporate both theory and practice in our courses to help students explore their career path. More than
100 graduates of the master’s program received the psychologist license in Taiwan and some of them
entered doctoral programs related to counseling or education. Two alumni are serving as assistant
professors. 14 graduates of the bachelor’s program received level B technician license for employment
service in Taiwan.

Introduction
Department of Music
In 2006, the department was renamed to the Department of Music due to its reorganization in accordance
with the transformation of the University from a teachers’ college to a higher-level comprehensive
education institute. The Department of Music provides a well-designed curriculum that helps advancing
students with both academic and performance related abilities. The department has large classrooms
containing high quality audio and video equipment and grand pianos; 3 research studios for graduate
students; three recital halls; 1 ensemble classroom; 1 computer lab; 52 practice rooms (23 with grand
pianos and 3 with two grand pianos); 1 Fazioli Concert Grand piano; various percussion instruments and
many orchestral string, wind and brass instruments. In addition to the music library located in the
department’s main office, the university’s main library is equipped with numerous music scores, books,
professional magazines, recordings and other valuable music sources. Bachelor of Arts in Music (B.A.):
This is a liberal arts degree program with a broad curriculum that includes standard music history, theory
courses and various other courses, which diversify into many required and elective courses. Applied
musical performance is offered in areas such as piano, vocal, strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass)
woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon), brass (trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba), percussion, and
composition. Students are widely engaged in various ensemble opportunities such as chorus, symphony
orchestra, and chamber music ensembles. Traditionally, this program has contributed to the preparation of
elementary school teachers. Today, students can pursue diverse directions such as performance,
composition, music business, music technology, and other related areas. Master of Music (M.M.) Master
of Arts (M.A.): These programs provide education with in-depth training and experience in three areas of
concentration: music performance and composition, music education, and musicology. Major areas of
study for music performance that are available include piano, voice, woodwind, brass, string, and music
composition. The study in each of these areas aims to improve student’s expertise in handling instructional
challenges and musical demands. Future Development: (1)Cultivate professional music teachers with
either educational related or performance related competencies. In most cases, students graduating from
our undergraduate and graduate programs are at the level of professional music teachers for elementary
schools. (2)Develop independent research abilities of students in the musical field.(3)Prepare students to
enter the highly diverse and competitive music market, such as orchestra performing, private teaching,
music therapy, music publishing, music technology and music business managing.(4)Prepare students to
engage in community music promotion works.(5)Encourage students to participate in
national/international professional music organizations

Introduction
The department of Fine Art was found in 1946. As the first education facility focusing on Fine Art in
Taiwan, we inherited the school’s creative discipline and art skills from well-known professors such as
Lu ,Fo-Ting and Lin ,Chih-Chu.
Our department was named Fine Arts Section of the Junior Teachers’ College in 1992, and being renamed
as the Department of Fine Arts in 2004 and started the Master’s Program two years later.
To cultivate talents for the education of fine arts and professional artists with accomplishments in both the
creation and theory of art, we target on not only the traditional essence, but also modern technical and
theoretical courses of contemporary art media to enrich our faculty’s participation toward art industry and
international arts activities.
We provide excellent environment to enhance our students’ professional abilities and competitiveness in
art. Such as Fine Arts Building, art studio, and art center are all well-functioned space for exhibition,
creation and practice which improve students’ habit of mutual observation and self-examination.
