REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS

1. What were your thoughts and feelings while playing this virtual gaming simulation?

• I was surprised to notice that each brief film contains a related question on what to
anticipate in the following clip while participating in the virtual game simulation. Also,
not just the right response to the supplied question but also each erroneous alternative
includes a justification. The virtual game simulation can be used by players or students.

2. How did you feel in the role of the healthcare provider during this simulation? Did anything
surprise you?

• It astonished me that it was more realistic than any other gaming simulation I'd
attempted as Gita, a healthcare practitioner in a virtual game simulation in charge of an
influenza patient. I'm fascinated by what it's like to be a nurse helping a patient who has
an infectious respiratory ailment since I'm responsible for more than just giving them
treatment; I also have to stop or prevent the spread of infection.

3. What did you learn about the other roles of the interprofessional healthcare team (i.e.,
occupational therapist, occupational therapist assistant and physiotherapy assistant,
environmental service manager, nurse)?

• In infection control, I discovered that the environmental service manager will create an
environment that is ideal for patient care, safety, service, and value, whereas the
occupational therapist will make sure that infection prevention and control measures
are implemented in their practice to support the health and safety of clients, healthcare
providers, themselves, and others. oversees the daily operations of the department and
makes sure that it is kept immaculately for the benefit of patients, guests, and
employees.
4. Reflect on what you learned in relation to interprofessional communication and collaboration.
What strategies would you use to promote effective interprofessional communication
amongst the members of the healthcare team?

• Incorporate cooperation into daily duties and promote open communication among
interprofessional healthcare teams. These tactics would help achieve the objective of
stopping the transmission of illness more quickly and easily since effective
communication is crucial when making interventions for patient care and safety. For me
as a nurse, as well as for patients, hospital personnel, and my colleagues in healthcare,
open communication and teamwork are beneficial techniques.

5. Everyone’s journey throughout the game may be different. From your decisions, what did you
learn about infection prevention and control practices?

• I gained knowledge about infection prevention and control procedures throughout the
virtual gaming simulation, including how to properly remove PPE, which is crucial for
stopping the spread of illness. It is crucial that we inform our patients about isolation
procedures and infection control techniques, as well as their relatives, friends, and
visitors. Collaboration with other medical specialists is also very helpful in avoiding
infection.

6. What are your key takeaways related to your role in decreasing the risk of transmission of an
infectious agent and breaking the chain of transmission?

• As a nurse, I interact with patients all the time and have the chance to stop infections at
every interaction and intervention. By cleaning the area, sterilizing medical tools and
equipment, concealing coughs and sneezes, employing excellent hand hygiene, putting
into practice conventional precautions and transmission-based measures, and
effectively utilizing personal protective equipment, you can lower the risk of
transmission (PPE).

7. Reflecting on how the client is part of the interprofessional team, how will you collaborate
with the client to promote infection prevention and control practices?
• As a nurse, I will work with the client to promote infection prevention and control
practices by educating her about the main issue—the spread of infection—and how we
will mitigate it. I will talk to her about the significance of infection prevention, the
techniques/methods for successfully controlling the spread of infection, the necessary
things to do with her visitors, and other topics.

8. What will you take away from this simulation to incorporate into your clinical practice? For
example, what practices will you keep, what practices will you change, and what new learning will
you integrate into your clinical practice?

• One of the procedures I'll continue to follow and unquestionably apply or include into
my professional practice is the correct manner or order of removing PPE. Care must be
used when removing PPE. Start by removing the gloves from glove to glove and skin to
skin. In order to avoid touching the exterior with your hands, take off the robe next.
After that, do hand hygiene using an alcohol-based hand rub method, unless the client's
condition specifically forbids it. After that, remove your eyewear by merely touching the
side handles. Leaning forward, take off your mask, just touching the elastic on the side
that is closest to your ears. After that, wash your hands

Education on infection prevention and control is critical because it empowers patients and visitors with knowledge about techniques and methods for controlling the spread of infection. It enables healthcare providers to engage clients in practices that mitigate infection risks, ensuring both effective treatment and safety within healthcare settings .

Interprofessional teamwork influences infection control by leveraging the diverse expertise of healthcare providers, such as environmental services and occupational therapists, to create holistic strategies. This cooperative approach ensures that infection prevention measures are comprehensive, widely implemented, and consistently monitored across various care points .

Based on simulation insights, I would improve clinical practice by rigorously applying the systematic order of PPE removal, reinforcing PPE training, and enhancing protocols for when and where PPE should be used. Continuous education on PPE will ensure adherence to safety standards, minimizing infection risk .

Virtual gaming simulations offer realistic scenarios where participants apply infection control and prevention practices, such as proper PPE removal, in a safe environment. They allow healthcare providers to experience decision-making and learn the ramifications of actions, which enhances their understanding and readiness for real-world applications .

Participating in the virtual gaming simulation enhanced the understanding of infection prevention and control practices by allowing the nursing professional to explore the appropriate removal of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the importance of educating patients and their visitors about isolation and control procedures. It also underlined the significance of collaboration with other medical specialists to prevent infection .

The virtual gaming simulation provided insights into the roles of different interprofessional healthcare team members, such as the environmental service manager and occupational therapist, in infection control. The environmental service manager ensures an optimal environment for patient care, which includes safety and value, while the occupational therapist implements infection prevention measures in their practice to protect clients and healthcare providers .

Key lessons include the meticulous order of PPE removal, importance of hand hygiene, ensuring the sterilization of medical tools, and employing conventional and transmission-based precautions. These practices help lower infection risk by systematically interrupting the transmission chain during patient interactions and interventions .

A nurse should engage the client in discussions about the importance of infection prevention, reinforce methods to control infection spread, and guide them on necessary precautions with visitors. This involves collaborative dialogue to ensure patients understand their role as part of the interprofessional team in preventing infections .

To improve interprofessional communication and collaboration, the simulation suggests incorporating cooperation into daily tasks and promoting open communication. These strategies help achieve the goal of preventing the transmission of illness by ensuring effective patient care and safety interventions .

A collaborative effort in infection control creates a safer environment by integrating the roles of various healthcare team members to maintain optimal patient safety and care standards. Open communication and joint responsibility in implementing infection prevention strategies ensure comprehensive protection against infectious agents, benefiting both patients and healthcare providers .
