II. DESCRIPTION

(Describe the physical features of the land formation)

Mt. Patong is a sloped landform with a scenic terrain which gives full overview of the town. Evident in the
area are layering trees, distant views from different Barangays namely: Barangays Bagong Silang, Tigbao,
New Panay, Magcagong, Mauswagon, New Katipunan including Mt. Mabugnao.

III. STORIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE LAND FORMATION(NAME PARTICULAR PERSONS)

The word “Patong” was derived from the location of the said mountain considering it is situated in between
two land sections, thus naming it Mt. Patong.

During the 80’s, the area was totally occupied by rebel armies where they took shelter for years during the
height of the armed conflict in Maragusan. Localities in the area had experienced armed encounters several
times involving even their families. Over time, the area was cleared from the presence of rebel armies because
of the government’s efforts in eradicating insurgency in the country.

Socioeconomic – The economic activities brought by the development of various resorts has contributed to
the generation of income of families, the barangay and the LGU.(AGRICULTURE)

Social – The resort serves as a venue for social gatherings, conduct of capacity development trainings and
the like.

Socio-political – Mt. Patong is a contested area between the municipalities Pantukan and Maragusan. The
conflict was settled by the provincial government by following the political [Link] OF
MARAGUSAN .

The LGU continually enforces local ordinances and environmental laws

The area is likely to experience strong winds because of its geographical


location.

The barangay and resorts owners are prohibited from cutting trees and are obliged plant more in the
surrounding area. The local government unit also conducts regular tree planting activity in the barangay.
