~~ USER INSTRUCTIONS for Flight Systems 72-23931l-00 Replacement for Kohler 23953 (Al! Revs) and klt 228602 Remove the orginal regulator and save the mounting hardware. With a DUM of god quality, make the following resistance checks ‘DVI Negative Lead _| DVM Positive Lead_[ Resistance Reading White wire slack wire 3.5 Ohms, Approxmately Engine Frame Blak Wire > 5 Megohms or oft Yellow Wire Orange wie 7 Ohms Yellow Wire [Red Wire 020hm= Install the new regulator sing the exiting Hardware. Make ure thal the adjustments are accesible an that thee i no obstruction to airflow. Set the DVM to “AC VOLTS" onthe proper ange and connect tan AC receptacle or extension cord) on the craft or vehicle. The generator voltage ia present atthe regulator connector between the RED wie and the YELLOW wire. Make sue the shore or utility power source is disconnected. Start the generator and allow it to warm up at no oad. tf ‘the voltages unstable adjust the STABILITY potentiometer (the pt inthe center} CW untlit becomes stable, but not more than necessary, a ths wl sow the response ofthe regulator to sudden loa changes ‘The VOLTS potentiometer has been factory st to 120 VAC for generators without an external voltage adjustment (10 pot). your generator has an external wotage adjustment, set it atits mid point and then readjust the regulators, ‘necessary for [Link]. Further ine adjustment (f nezded) can then be done with the external potentiometer. ‘The V/He potentiometer (BLUE seal) hasbeen factory st at 57 Hz. 00 NOT attempt to adjust unless you have the proper knowledge and equipment. The generator voltage willbe reduced proportionately ithe engine speed als ‘below 958 of rate RPM oF 57 He on 260 Hr system. For 250 He system, a setting of 4 Hes used selustration), ‘when the frequency i below the V/HE st point knee, the red U/F LED willbe iluminated, indicating unde-fequency and thatthe voltages beng reduced. This feature protects appliances rom under frequency as welas helping the {engine to recover more quchly when a heaw load is suddenly applied to the generator. It's normal forthe U/F LED to come on bry when aheavy load is suddenly applied. NOTE: The U/F LED is located onthe edge ofthe regulator adjacent tothe VOLTS potentiometer (see lustration. Is very small and may not be visible through the urethane potting material when not illuminated If for some reason adjustment becomes necessary se ths procedure: Set the [DVM for Hand force the engin to un tthe desired under speed RPM (by governor adjustment or other mechanical means}. Turn the V/ltz potentiometer CW unite U/F LED comes on, then CCW untl itust goes off. The voltage should retuento 120 VAC. Return engine to normal rated speed. ey [F ae “Troubleshooting Kohler Models SE/4EF, 7.3/SEF are used as an example) Engine tating stoping, felé Nash and safety fetures areal functions ofthe Kohler Controller Circuit high coolant temperature, low coolant lve, high engin temperature or low ol pressure can cause rela tolight and engine shutdown to occur 5-10 seconde after starting. Low orna AC voltage at 81-82 (bat Board, Fults suchas Ka to energie, LED A tory charging) can cause ‘the engine to shut down as 5000 35 the start switch eleased(LED1 doesnot ight). This procedure assumes thatthe engine is ‘running properly wth no issues. f not, perform service as needed on the engine and/or controle befor Check the 108 fuse F3 that supplies power tothe regulator on ORANGE. + Perorm the resetane checks in the table above re proceeding mn lunder INSTALLATION. on ‘Check that the 12VDC fed fash voltage is present at = the regulator between (BLACK, Pos) and (WHITE, a Neg) during cranking. not, the controler ely i. aa faulty ae + Disconnect WHITE and BLACK Separately exctethe so 13 sass field by connecting 12-volt battery in series with a eat 10-3 fuse tothe il circuit with BLACK postive — the generator does not produce AC voltage the fal is ‘prestmmesuone ely in the generator. fi produces AC voltage, the faults kely nthe regulator.
