Activity

1. Write a 300 word essay explaining your stand on this claim: “Since we, humans, we have all the right to
control and manipulate the environment for human and economic development.”
 Humans does not have the right to control and manipulate the environment for human
and economic development. As society evolved, populations grew and more and more
resources were required to fuel the expansion. We, as a human should know that we have
the responsibility to preserve and protect the environment as we depend on the resources
and services it provides. For example, our forests remove carbon dioxide and other
pollutants from the air we breathe and also cool our air temperatures, reducing the
formation of ground-level ozone, a pollutant that can cause heart and lung problems to
worsen; our wetlands store storm water, filter and make harmless storm water pollutants,
and recharge our aquifers (where most of us get our drinking water) with these filtered
waters; and the dune systems on our beaches form natural barriers to storm waves and
provide important habitat and travel ways for wildlife. Our environment is what houses and
helps our ecosystem grow and thrive. Without protecting and taking care of our
environment we’re putting so many lives at danger such as animals, plants and crops, and
even our own. Environment plays an important role in the healthy living of human beings.
It matters because it is the only home that humans have ,and it provides air, food and other
needs. Humanity's entire life support system depends on the well -being of all the
environment factors. The environment gives us countless benefits that we can't repay our
entire life. As they are connected with the forest, trees, animals, water, and air. The forest
and trees filter the air and absorb harmful gases. Plants purify water, reduce the chances of
flood maintain natural balance and many others. Humans doesn’t have the rights to ruin
the environment since we all benefit from what the environment is giving to all living
things.
2. You observed that almost all people in your community are lacking in awareness on how to manage their
waste. There are no waste containers on the main streets, and people throw their waste into the river.
What will you do to make the people become aware of their responsibility to respect and take care of the
environment?
 To make the people become aware of their responsibility to respect and take care of the
environment , we can ask the person with a higher position in our community to make a
campaign that aims to make the people know how important is taking care of the
environment. We can also make the schools teach the student about taking care of the
environment by practicing in making a garden and having a tree planting in school.
3. Our ancestors were frugal and prudent towards the environment. Cite one Filipino Proverb or saying on
protecting the environment. Explain that in a 150 word essay.

“I really don’t see how the country will move forward and realize its potential if we don’t commit to the
nurturance of these resources.” By the late Gina Lopez. Regina Paz Lopez, Gina Lopez to most, was an
industrialist’s daughter who could’ve chosen to live her entire life in privilege. She eschewed that path and
instead became a yoga missionary at the age of 18, “living as the poor lived” and serving in Portugal, India
and Africa. Upon her return, she headed the charitable arm of the family conglomerate, ABS-CBN
Foundation, and helmed pioneering programs such as Bantay Bata 163. Ms. Lopez’s unwavering faith in the
country coupled with her ebullient nature encouraged a lot of Filipinos to spread kindness and do their share
in caring for mother earth. In the quote above, Ms Lopez meant that the country will not move forward if we,
the people will not take care and protect the resources that can help our country to move forward and to
improve.
Activity
1. Do you agree with the statement, “Ang basurang itinapon mo ay babalik sa’yo” or not? Explain your
answers in a 150 word essay.
 For me, I agree to the statement “Ang basurang itinapon mo ay babalik sa’yo”. This means
that the garbage that you've thrown goes back to you. Garbage pollution is a major problem
here in the Philippines, as well as in other third world countries. Most of the time this
garbages ends up in the oceans causing pollution and eventually killing the corals, ocean
creatures, etc. Filipinos lack disciplined when it comes to this matter. It's true that the
government have part on this problem. They should be responsible for creating a good
garbage system or flood system, but the major part goes to every individual to be
responsible for their own trash. People should not throw garbage on the roads, corners,
empty spaces or rather wherever they find a place. We should all learn to throw our trash
properly to lessen the garbage pollution. Let's all work together to save the environment.
1. As you are walking around your community, you observe that there are many young people throwing
garbage along the road, you are convinced that this practice of these young people would have a
negative result on the environment. As a youth who is aware of your responsibility towards the
environment, what would you do to help stop each practice of the young today? Elaborate your
answers. Minimum of 100 words.
 To make the people become aware of their responsibility to respect and take care of the
environment , we can ask the person with a higher position in our community to make a
campaign that aims to make the people know how important is taking care of the
environment. We can do a cleaning program so that the people will see that what we are
doing is important. We can also ask the higher ups to must let the people create a trash can
where they can throw their garbage but we also need to make sure that they will practice the
proper segregation.

1. What happens when man does not consider the environment as a community? Explain your answer
 If a man does not consider the environment as a community, this means that he/she does
not care about the environment. They will just do anything and everything they like without
knowing if what they are doing can cause damage to the environment and that if the
environment will be damage and not protected, sooner or later it will have an effect to all.
2. According to Fr. Mercado, what is the consequence of seeing forests or rivers as brothers or sisters?
Explain your answers.
 The consequence of seeing forests or rivers as brothers or sisters Their preservation and
conservation was his life, their destruction, his destruction. This means that caring and
protecting the environment means that we are preserving it but if people are Carelessly
damaging the environment and does not care about what will happen, someday, they will
just realize that the destruction they cause to the environment will also happen to the
people because we get almost all our resources to the environment.

parks, malls, high rise buildings and condominiums, and the like? Justify your answer.
 I disagree to the conversion of agricultural lands into subdivisions, recreational parks,
malls, high rise buildings and condominiums because if we will convert agricultural land
into subdivisions ,recreational park , etc. What will happen to our agricultural needs like
rice, corns, etc. Converting it will have a very huge effect to us because agriculture is one of
the providers of our daily needs.

4. The life of indigenous people depends on the richness of their agricultural lands. If you were the
leader of the country, how will you help them protect and sustain their agricultural lands without
depriving them of the advantages of technological development? Explain
 If were rhe leader of the country, the first thing that i will do to help those indigenous
people is to give them financial that they will used to buy their needs in agriculture and I
will also make a law that states that their agricultural lands will not be touch by other
people that is not part of their group. Only them has the rights in their land.

The document suggests that communities can increase waste management awareness by organizing campaigns led by influential community members that emphasize the importance of environmental care. Additionally, it recommends educational programs in schools that focus on practical environmental care activities such as gardening and tree planting. Community cleaning programs and the implementation of proper waste disposal systems, including segregation and trash bins, are also vital to raising awareness and fostering responsible waste management practices .

The document emphasizes teaching environmental stewardship to young people because they are crucial to future sustainability efforts. By instilling a sense of responsibility and awareness through educational practices such as gardening and tree planting, young people can become more engaged with environmental issues and practice sustainable habits. This knowledge helps them understand the value of the environment, fostering a community that prioritizes environmental care, which is essential for long-term ecological balance and health .

The document expresses a clear stance against converting agricultural lands into urban developments, such as subdivisions or malls, due to the adverse effects on agricultural production. It argues that such conversions threaten the supply of agricultural essentials like rice and corn, which are vital for daily sustenance. The loss of agricultural land can have long-lasting negative impacts on food security and the livelihoods of those who depend on farming, suggesting that preserving agricultural lands is essential for maintaining economic stability and sustaining local communities .

The Filipino proverb "Ang basurang itinapon mo ay babalik sa’yo" highlights a cultural understanding of reciprocal relationships with the environment, suggesting that neglectful environmental actions have consequences that eventually affect those responsible. This cultural wisdom stresses accountability in managing waste and implies that improper disposal leads to environmental problems such as pollution, which in turn can harm communities. The proverb illustrates a cause-and-effect relationship, emphasizing that environmental neglect eventually impacts human health and wellbeing .

Regina Paz Lopez posits that national progress is intrinsically linked to the way resources are nurtured. She argues that without committing to the care of these natural resources, the country cannot move forward or realize its potential. Her standpoint is rooted in the belief that environmental stewardship is crucial for sustainable development, and neglecting this responsibility can hinder the nation's growth .

The document delineates individual responsibility as a critical component in addressing garbage pollution. It highlights that while governmental systems for waste management are necessary, the majority of the responsibility lies with individuals to ensure that they properly dispose of their waste. Through personal discipline in waste disposal, communities can significantly reduce pollution levels. Emphasizing individual action underscores the collective impact of personal accountability in fostering a cleaner and more sustainable environment .

The document addresses a key contradiction between economic development and environmental preservation, highlighting that unrestrained human activities aiming at economic growth can lead to environmental degradation. It argues that while there is a desire to control and exploit natural resources for economic purposes, humans actually bear the responsibility to protect the environment as their survival depends on its health. The document criticizes the notion that humans have the right to manipulate the environment, emphasizing that such actions can ultimately harm human societies by disrupting the ecosystems that provide essential services such as air and water filtration .

Fr. Mercado reasons that seeing natural elements like forests and rivers as familial relations fosters a sense of responsibility for their preservation and conservation. This viewpoint implies that the health and survival of natural environments are directly linked to human well-being. By seeing forests and rivers as kin, individuals are more likely to care for and protect these resources, understanding that their destruction would in turn mean the destruction of human societies reliant on them for life-sustaining resources .

Failing to see the environment as a community implies a lack of care and concern for its well-being, leading to actions that may damage the environment. When people treat the environment this way, they may engage in activities that harm natural ecosystems, resulting in long-term detriments to human life because the environment provides essential resources such as clean air, water, and food. This lack of community-oriented perspective can lead to environmental degradation, which impacts both nature and human life .

To balance technological advancement with the protection of indigenous agricultural lands, the document proposes financial support for indigenous communities to meet their agricultural needs while maintaining autonomy over their lands. It also mentions the enactment of legal protections that prohibit external entities from interfering with indigenous lands, ensuring that these lands remain under the stewardship of their traditional caretakers. This approach aims to empower indigenous peoples to sustain their agricultural practices without being deprived of technological benefits .
