INTRODUCTION TO PANELLING
It is a wall covering
constructed from rigid or
semi-rigid components.
These are traditionally
interlocking wood, but
could be plastic or other
materials.
Historically panelling was
used in stone buildings to
make rooms more
comfortable. The panels
served to insulate the room
from the cold stone.
In modern buildings, panelling is installedfor decorative
purposes. Such as wainscoting (oak board) and boiserie (carved wood).

PROPERTIES OF WOODEN PANELLING
Wood panelling enhances the look or the aesthetical quality of a space.
As these are available in a wide range of colours and dimensions.
Wood Panels are Durable - These can last for a long period if taken care of.
Wooden Panels can be re-painted over a period of time to break the
monotony. This can also be done by using different type of stains. A wide
range of varnishes, paints, and stains for sealing the wood and protecting
are available in the market.
Easy to Install
Wood panels are available in different styles and can be installed
easily.
For example, tongue-and-groove is a kind of wood panel.
V-joint panel is the kind of panel which is joined in the form of a V-shape.

1. NATURAL WOOD PANELLING
Wood panels offer a thickness
range from 3 mm to 43 mm;
they can be painted, wood
veneered and polished, or
factory finished with foils and
decorative overlays
With time, more hybrid
materials and synthetic
materials have replaced the
wood panel cladding concept.

Veneer/Laminate Panelling
This is one of the most commonly
used material for panel walls.
Laminate is a rigid material, made
by bonding of two or more layers.
It is available in a sheet of
thickness 0.8mm,1mm,1.5mm,
Size : 6’x3’,8’x4’ and in multiple
colours and textures.
Laminates are weather-resistant,
chemical resistant, and moisture
resistant.
Laminates are cheaper than wood
veneers and are easy to clean. All
you need to do is wipe down with WOODEN PANEL WITH
a wet cloth. METAL STRIP

3. BLOCKBOARD PANELLING
• Block Boards are made from a
combination of suitable seasoned solid
wood core and decorative face veneers.
Seasoned to a moisture content and
chemically treated for termite resistance.
All core battens are made from
hardwoods, 25mm wide, placed
horizontally and glued laterally to form the
core which is covered with a cross band.
• These boards are used for furniture,
partitions, racks, shelves, cupboards,
shutters and panelling etc.
• Standard Thickness (in mm) available are
15/16, 18/19, 24/25, 30, 32, 38 and 40.

[Link] & PARTICLE BOARD PANELLING
Medium density fiber board(MDF) is
made by by using dry pressing of the
fine wood shavings at high
temperature and pressure. The wood
releases lignin during heating. It
serves as a bonding element.
It comes in the thickness of 3mm-
35mm and sheet size- 8’x4’
The material can withstand sufficient
load because of its thickness, only
meant for indoor use, has a heat and
sound insulation.
The varieties of particle board
available are Power Board, medium
density board and oriented strand
board etc.

Process to fix panels using metal studs
STEP 1 - Install GI track on floor and ceiling. The metal studs are fixed
at the extreme ends of the wall to make an outer frame
STEP 2 - Mark vertical and horizontal grid line. Fix vertical studs with max
600mm c/c with the help of GI brackets fixed at 400mm c/c. The electrical
conduits and boxes are also layed at this stage if required.

Process to fix panels using metal studs
STEP 3 - Installing plaster board. The board is cut to the desired size and
then fixed to the studs with the help of drywall screws. Insulation can be fitted
to provide Acoustic and Fire performance
STEP 4 - Fixing panels for services like waste pipe. Fix frame with the
studs and channels to enclose the pipe. Install boards over this.

ACOUSTICAL WALL PANELLING
Acoustical panels are used
to control noise levels in a
space and to block noise
transfer through walls.
They're made from foam or
wood cores wrapped with a
layer of vinyl or fabric.
The panels help to absorb
sound and are commonly
used n schools,
. auditoriums and hotels.
These panels are available
in a wide variety of colors
and textures to match the
room's decor

It is mounted on a wooden
frame with invisible battens. The
wooden frame is filled with
sound absorbing mineral wool
(e.g. Rockwool).
A space of 2.5 mm per meter
in height and width around
the panels is left to allow
expansion.
Typical installation with panels on 50mm softwood
battens, black tissue to the rear of the panels and 50mm
of mineral fiber in the cavity.

LEAD LINING PANELLING
Lead lining paneling provides a permanent solution for radiation shielding
and offers more effective protection than partitions and mobile forms of
shielding. This is especially important for treatment rooms and other
applications where employees are at risk of prolonged radiation
exposure.
These panels can either be manufactured as plasterboards, plywood
boards, or laminated wall panels. Mostly found in medical and industrial
applications, including welding, nuclear and testing.
Lead lined boards that are used for x-ray wall linings can be manufactured to
any length up to a maximum size of 3m long and 600mm wide, as lead lining
makes them heavy to lift.
Extreme care must be taken when applying any item to a lead-lined door or
frame that the fasteners do not penetrate that lead lining.

LEAD PANELLING MATERIALS
Lead Lined Plasterboard 13 mm
It has water,fireresistance and sound
insulation properties. Its high density core
with glass fiber reinforcement wrapped in
heavy duty paper has an added benefit of
approximately 0.1mm lead equivalence at x-ray
energies up to 120 kV Plasterboard Size: 1200
mm W x 3000 mm L x 13 mm thick with Lead
Lining choice of 1220 mm W x 2100 mm L or
1220 mm W x 2400 mm L
Lead Lined Particle Board 12 mm
It has a much greater tensile bond strength
than plasterboard, which means high impact
resistance compared to plasterboard, in areas
that are prone to wear and tear.
