The speed of a hydraulic cylinder is controlled by regulating the flow rate of the hydraulic fluid using flow control valves. By adjusting the flow rate entering the cylinder, the speed of the piston within the cylinder can be varied, allowing precise control of movement speed in applications such as heavy machinery .

Pascal's Law states that a change in pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is transmitted undiminished to every point of the fluid and to the walls of its container. In hydraulic systems, this principle is applied to create mechanical advantage, allowing small forces to produce larger forces through the use of hydraulic cylinders and pistons .

Common problems in pneumatic circuits include air leaks, moisture in air lines, pressure drops, blocked filters, and insufficient lubrication. Remedies involve regular inspections and maintenance practices such as sealing leaks, installing moisture traps, replacing filters, and ensuring proper lubrication, which help maintain efficient circuit operation .

The major components of a hydraulic system include the reservoir for holding fluid, a pump to circulate the fluid, valves to control the flow and direction, actuators to convert the fluid power into mechanical power (like hydraulic cylinders and motors), and a network of pipes and hoses for fluid transmission .

Pneumo-hydraulic circuits combine the advantages of both pneumatic and hydraulic systems. They offer high force output typical of hydraulics with the quick response and clean operation of pneumatics. Advantages include energy efficiency, high force-to-weight ratio, and reduced maintenance due to fewer moving parts and contaminations .

The pressure compensated flow control valve maintains a constant flow rate regardless of changes in load pressure, enhancing system stability and efficiency. This is particularly beneficial in applications where the operating pressure varies significantly, ensuring consistent performance and preventing actuator speed variation .

Servo valves and proportional valves differ mainly in precision and control. Servo valves provide high precision in controlling fluid flow, offering faster and more accurate responses, which makes them suitable for applications requiring fine control, such as robotics. Proportional valves, on the other hand, offer more general, less precise control, and are often used in applications where absolute precision is less critical .

An FRL unit in a pneumatic system stands for Filter, Regulator, and Lubricator. The filter cleans air by removing dust and moisture, the regulator controls the air pressure to ensure consistent delivery, and the lubricator adds oil mist to the airflow to lubricate moving parts, increasing efficiency and longevity .

A hydraulic accumulator stores energy in the form of pressurized fluid, releasing it when needed to smooth operation, maintain pressure, and compensate for fluid leakage. Common applications include providing additional power during peak demand and shock absorption in hydraulic systems, enhancing operational efficiency and stability .

External gear pumps use two gears that mesh together externally, whereas internal gear pumps consist of one inner gear rotating inside another gear. External gear pumps typically use spur or helical gears, providing simplicity and reliability. Internal gear pumps often use a combination of a spur and a rotor gear, offering smoother operation and reduced noise .
