Class, before we proceed to our proper discussion
I want you to observe and analyze these pictures.

Now we will have an activity.
Kindly give the names of the following
pictures that I will present to you in order.
Can you give me one example from the
pictures and tell me the function of it?
Now, class what have you observed? What
are the common among the pictures?
Very good! All of those things that you’ve seen
are all circular in shape. And that’s our lesson for
today, it’s all about “Circles, It’s Related Lines and
Segments”.
Analysis
Class, in your own idea, how can you describe
a circle? Can you give me one description of a circle?
A circle is the set of all points on a plane at a given
distance from a fixed point called center.
The circle is made up of many points
that are the same distance to the
fixed point on the circle.
There is a point at the center of the circle,
this point is called the center. Circle are

The name of the circle is circle A or A.
Next is radius. A radius is a line segment joining
the center of the circle to any point on the circle.

If we write B on the other end
of the radius then we have now

All radii in a circle have equal length. “Radii” is the
plural form of radius.
Another part of circle is diameter. A diameter is a
line segment that passes through the center of the
circle.

A diameter divides the circle into two equal parts.
Also, the measurement of the diameter is twice the
measurement of the radius.
The next part of a circle is chord. A chord is a
line segment whose endpoints lie on the circle.

Now, I have one question, are all diameters
considered as chords? Yes or No?
Then are all chords considered as diameters?
Apparently, all diameters are considered as
chords but not all chords are considered as diameters
because not all chords passed through the center of
the circle.
Diameters are considered as chords for the reason
that it is also called as the longest chord.
Let’s proceed to the next term related to circle
which is the secant. Secant is a line that intersects
a circle at two distinct points.

Then, another part of a circle is the tangent.
A tangent is a line that touches the circle at exactly
one point and that point is called point of tangency.
