CLOTHES DEFINITIONS

Apron /ˈeɪprən/ A piece of clothing you wear when cooking to keep your clothes clean.
Bathrobe /ˈbɑːθrəʊb/ A soft coat that you wear before or after a bath.
Belt /belt/ A long, thin piece of leather, cloth, or plastic that you wear around your waist.
Beret /ˈbereɪ/ A round, flat hat made of soft material.
Blouse /blaʊz/ A piece of clothing like a shirt that women wear.
Boots /buːts/ Strong shoes that cover your feet and part of your legs.
Bow tie /baʊ taɪ / A special type of tie in the shape of a bow, worn especially by men on formal occasions.
Bra /brɑː/ A piece of woman's underwear that supports the breasts.
Braces /ˈbreɪsɪz/ Two straps fixed to a pair of trousers that go over your shoulders and stop the trousers from falling
down.
Brooch /brəʊtʃ/ A piece of jewellery for women which is fastened onto clothes with a pin.
Cap /kæp/ A hat with a flat, curved part at the front.
Cardigan /ˈkɑːdɪgən/ A piece of clothing, often made of wool, that covers the top part of your body and fastens at the
front.
Clogs /klɒgz/ Shoes made from wood, or shoes with a wooden sole.
Coat /kəʊt/ A piece of clothing with sleeves that you wear over your other clothes, especially when you go outside.
Denim jacket /ˈdenɪm ˈdʒækɪt / A short coat made from denim(a thick, strong, cotton cloth, usually blue).
Dress /dres/ A piece of clothing for women or girls which covers the top of the body and hangs down over the legs.
Dressing gown /dresɪŋ gaʊn / A piece of clothing, like a long coat, that you wear at home when you are not dressed.
Gloves /glʌvz/ A piece of clothing which covers your fingers and hand.
Handbag /ˈhændbæg/ A bag carried by a woman with her money, keys, etc inside.
Handkerchief /ˈhæŋkətʃiːf/ A small piece of cloth or soft paper that you use to dry your eyes or nose.
Hat /hæt/ Something you wear to cover your head, for fashion or protection.
Helmet /ˈhelmət/ A hard hat that protects your head.
Hood /hʊd/ A part of a coat or jacket that covers your head and neck.
Jacket /ˈdʒækɪt/ A short coat.
Jeans /dʒiːnz/ Trousers made from denim (= a strong, usually blue, material).
Jersey /ˈdʒɜːzi/ A piece of clothing which covers the top of your body and is pulled on over your head.
Jewellery /ˈdʒuːəlri/ Objects made from gold, silver, and valuable stones that you wear for decoration.

Wallet /ˈwɒlɪt/ A small, flat container for paper money and credit cards, usually used by a man.
Zip /zɪp/ A thing for fastening clothes, bags, etc consisting of two rows of very small parts that connect together.
