1. First, place the rose picture in a new Illustrator file and lock this layer. Draw a rectangle on
top of it with the Rectangle Tool (M).

2. Select the Mesh Tool (U). Click on the center and add a new point.

3. Select the 3 extreme points on the left and shift it down using Direct Selection Tool (A).

4. Select Rotate Tool (R) and click on the middle point on the left edge and rotate. Do the
same with the other side. Adjust the direction points of the mesh to form curved edges.

7. Continue to do so with each grid point.

To get a more abrupt change in color tone, the distance between two points must be small.

8. Switch between Direct Selection Tool (A) and Eyedropper Tool (I) to add colors to the
entire mesh.

10. To get a highlight at the edges of the petals, the color distance between the points must be
small.

11. If you want to get a soft and diffused edge, change the colors of the edges to be the same
color as the next petal beside it.

2. Water Drops and Leaves

12. To draw the water drops, draw an oval shape and adjust it to form a water drop shape. Add
mesh points to it and adjust the colors. Same applies for drawing the drop shadows.
