Rizal’s Life and Works (8:30-10:00AM)
PART 1
A. NOLI ME TANGERE AND EL FILIBUSTERISMO
If Dr. Jose Rizal were alive today I wonder what his reactions to the events
and people of today would be. Today, he was 159 years old. He was only 35
years old when he was executed on the 30th of December 1898. What could our
national hero do in today’s generation. Rizal was chosen as our national hero,
mainly on the insistence of the Americans, because his life was colorful and he
was multi-talented, highly educated, well-travelled, witty, and multi-lingual. He
could write and speak fluently in more than ten languages. He also spoke
Visayan since he had been living in Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte, for quite a
while. He was a prolific writer who wrote not only the two novels "Noli Me
Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo," but also more than 100 poems mostly in
Spanish and Tagalog.
He was a writer, artist, agriculturalist, local activist, propagandist, scientist,
zoologist and much more and more, not just a doctor but high honor graduation
from Santo Tomas University. Rizal was a student. He was also a reformist and
nationalist. If we refer to the characters he created with Noli, he was more a
Crisostomo Ibarra than an Elias. With his greed, ignorance and desire he
despised the Spanish colonizers who were personified by Captain Tiago. His
contempt for self-righteousness, pleasure, envy and brutality against the Indios
was on the contemporary scribes and Pharisees as dramatized by Padre
Damaso and Padre Salve. Their attitudes can be seen in our modern politicians
today. Corrupt, greedy and ignorants. Our country is struggling and yet they still
find reasons to be more corrupt in amidst of a pandemic.
pg. 1
El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere have always been a good example.
El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere are all happenings in our country. The
Spaniards were so greedy in our country at the time. Our National Hero himself
has claimed that helping the Philippines in these days and years is not an asset,
but rather an truthful and moral duty. And now Our National Hero has also stated
that it is necessary to have a good view of our government or Organization, and
that it must not degrade others, but that our government or our Organization
should look at them as a farmer.
B. THE INDOLENCE OF THE FILIPINO
One of our national hero’s essays, The Indolence the Filipinos, or The
Sobre La Indolencia De Los Filipinos. It has been established in Madrid Spain as
a Socio Political Essay. It was an essay for Spaniards and for us Philippines,
there Jose Rizal said Spaniards teach us to be timid and lazy in working terms,
so far the attitude of the Philippines has been so far taken by it. Our National
Hero reproached the Spaniards that people living in the Philippines had become
timid and lazy because the less money they give or the less it sometimes doesn't
have destroyed society completely. Furthermore, because of the hot weather that
is hot and not their own kind to work in this kind of climate Filipinos become pitiful
and timid. But it's not a pity for me if we're hot or not we need to work hard not
only in our economy but in the world to get respect. And now back to the
argument I mentioned earlier that Filipino's earnings were poor and I'm sure
100% of the citizens appear to be lazy. This is a high cause. It is still relevant
today because there are still very small salaries for many farmers, sellers and
Filipino people working in our country.
This still happens to us today not even on the Spanish days, when many
Carpenters, farmers or Filipino citizens who work in our society still have very low
incomes. We Filipinos are humiliated and oppressed too far by the Spaniard
men. Furthermore, we require several documents to set up a company and these
pg. 2
will cost our time and this order is not necessarily authorized. In this kind of
misery almost everyone lost themselves. Sad to say, we're fooled right now.
They oppressed the disadvantaged people and manipulated the heads and that's
all going on right now. Because still the term "knowledge" really doesn't work with
anyone, because you are disadvantaged you don't have the ability to read or
research, because at the moment we have a prejudice between the poor and the
wealthy.
C. TO THE FILIPINO YOUTH
"Sobre la indolencia de los Filipinos" (On the indolence of the Filipinos) is
a very lengthy, and often furious, Rizal's article, which was printed in La
Solidaridad in March 1890. Rizal responded from abroad and over time to the
accusation of the Spanish colonial rulers that the Filipinos were indolent or lazy.
Rizal did not oppose it, but explained it to him: "We must admit that indolence
objectively and positively occurs there; except that, instead of considering it to be
the cause of backwardness and difficulty, we treat it as the result of difficulty and
backwardness, by promoting the creation of a pitiful predisposition."
The hope of Dr. Rizal to kabataan when he asked “Where are the youth
who will consecrate their golden hours, their illusions, and their enthusiasm to the
welfare of their native land?” The answer is we. We are on the cusp of
grandness, full of idealism and ready for the Philippines to become a better
place. Jose Rizal once said that "Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan." In that case,
our country needs to prepare for a lot of change, and investments to help that.
This generation that belongs to the future seems to face problems that aren't that
different from those that have troubled past generations, that’s why it’s still
relevant and these troubles shaped today's youth like never before. We have
seen the catastrophic effects of the most shameful social ills in our world, the
systemic misuse of public funds by the government, the gross infringement of
fundamental human rights and the relentless destruction of life and properties as
a result of alienation and greed. Stuff don't get it, however. Hope rises forever,
particularly when there are people who keep seeing the 'silver linen' among the
pg. 3
young. To support this cancer of the culture of entitlement, and among others, is
"us" the "kabataan" We are the future of this land, and one day we will become
the generation that leads this country in the most meaningful way.
PART 2
a.)
Catholic churches played a major role also in the present day and during the
colonial era, to reshape the Philippine culture. The Spanish State and the Catholic
Church is inviolable. The Spanish government then offered the religious a higher status
and gained a majority place in the Philippine administration. The religious figures, then,
were interested in Filipino abuse. The Augustinian, Dominican and Recollect religious
organizations occupied the greatest portions of the estate, the haciendas and the
resources. The religious order and Spanish monks had the highest legislative power
and had the largest impact in Filipino culture. In the light of those reasons, the books
written by Jose Rizal would certainly provoke a political intrusion and make it harder to
distribute his research, as his pragmatism in El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere
contradicts the overarching purpose of the Spanish Catholic order. The objective of the
friars was to prevent Filipino democracy by imposing fake religious beliefs that would
also include social security. The original aggression of Rizal toward the Spanish Friars
was to enlighten and make the Philippines recognize the true existence of this religious
group. The Friars did not recognize Rizal as a response. To warn the Spanish
Government of its actions in order also to prohibit the Filipinos from accessing this
publication and demolish anything in the process. Rizal 's practices were considered by
the Spanish Friars "heretical, impious and scandalous in moral words, anti-patriotic and
socially revolutionary."
pg. 4
b.)
The Catholic Church and Colleges/Universities are two separate types of
educators that depart from students' theories too. The Catholic Church consists of
theologians who teach the nature of God and a strict structure of belief. In the other side
the way of teaching of universities, primarily because of the various areas that they
have for their pupils, is very extensive and wide. However, there are other Catholic
colleges that teach the God and extensive subjects at the same time. Due to this
development, it can be possible to contradict one another in mixing these various
concepts. We may easily recognize why they are distinct by separating the factual and
the abstract. In addition to this, Rizal is also an specialist in medicine particularly
ophthalmology. In fact, he is also profound in literature, art and agriculture in many
fields. A faithful to God, too.
With respect to R.A. 1425 or "Rizal Law," the essence of the practice of Rizal for
young people is taught through schools and universities. In our school system, the
subject Rizal was made compulsory. In its early stages, teachers seem to change Rizal
's past due to its cruel truth. During the Spanish Dictatorship, they do not expose the
real existence of the Catholic Church. Due to the topics of rape, forced labour, as well
as the Friars' immoral conduct to Philippine citizens. These are delicate topics and can
may give the students social anxiety. This would simply be concealed and replaced by
lighter topics. We will always take into consideration that the Catholic Church owns
several schools and colleges in the Philippines. Therefore, Jose Rizal especially targets
the injustices structure of the Catholic Church during his time with his novel Noli Me
Tangere and El filibusterismo. Raised Catholic when conducting with one's own Priest.
We are questioned whether the Philippines have always introduced in them the Spanish
Friars' doctrines that are the primary cause of pain.
pg. 5
PART 3
a.)
During Spanish time, Dr. Jose Rizal portrayed women in a identity of Maria Clara
as discreet, feminine, humble, self-effacing, and faithful. Maria Clara acted as the
Filipina woman's name and profile. In order to criticize the Catholic Organization and
Spanish Colonialism, Maria Clara became a tool of discapacity and docility in the
Philippines. As women and mothers, Philippine women have played a crucial role in
ensuring the nation's development, teaching young people the right values and
information that mold them into a worthy and responsible citizen; while Rizal has an
immenses regard for Philippine women. Women concentrated during Spanish colonial
period on the replication of attractive habits, for example religious commitment,
pregnancy and housekeepings, castle and modesty, perseverance and the appearance
of children. They were barred from voting and people only had access to school.
The bravery of the young Malolos women influenced Jose Rizal. He claimed that
it was the quality that a Filipino woman would have and might be the secret to man's
freedom from poverty and education as a primary means of liberation. Rizal grew up in
a family of mainly women, and seems to have been instructed by his mother that people
would have preferential schooling. He claims the position of women has been
undermined by colonialism and patriarchy. During the Spanish conquest Maria Clara
symbols the unruly condition of Filipinos because it is a slavery commodity by the
hegemony of the Spanish and the exploitation of Filipino people by using them as an
instrument of emancipation for their own sakes. Maria Clara stands for the pure and
innocent of a safe Philippine native child.
b.)
A misconception that a Philippine would be humble, traditional, or sometimes
named 'Dalagang Filipina,' was generated by Maria Clara's character, which remains
conservative. This has driven Philippines over the years to be pure and humble. Young
Malolo women played an important role in Maria Clara 's growth. Women now have
pg. 6
exposure to schooling and will fight as feminists for their freedoms as people. Now
Philippine women are not relying on men; their own thoughts and feelings can be
articulated. We reside in a progressive and political era. There is nothing wrong with
becoming a conservative or liberated woman. Women will live and be accepted as they
want, irrespective of whether they behave or how they dress, decisions and beliefs of
their lives. Maria's feature remains a role model or inspiration to Filipino women, but it
doesn't mean that you should confine yourself to what you want, because it is a role
model. Women will accept who they are, realize what they want and what they lack. The
Philippines have more influence than ever; in the new world they should step on and
stick with the conventional image of Maria Clara, which has strengthened and inspired
us. There are many individuals who are really conservatist, but we live in a multicultural
society, while citizens are changing and may share their own thoughts, their own views.
Women only claimed to do domestic labor and multiply in Spanish colonialism.
Women may be experts and pioneers in a multicultural society in which we now reside
and some people don't want a child or are married, and there are often career-oriented
people. They said, "If you're mum, you're a kid," I don't believe it needs to be the same
as we have our own thoughts as a kid in our lives. It is a unusual problem, realizing why
other woman don't want a kid or get married so if that makes you satisfied, then it's
because we don't have to be limited to certain people's standards, not that we're better
suited to be like that, women won't criticize so condemn only because of life decisions,
stop the mind because of their decisions. The culture is oppressive then, males are
stronger than women, but things are improving now, and women can be equal as well.
There are so many politicians and experts who are women, which shows that, if not
stronger, we should measure up to them. I appreciate the way our culture evolves
today, the way people can share their own opinions and feelings openly. We consider a
woman really confident and intelligent. Maria Clara is not only conventional, but also
primarily significant in culture as well. Fair justice for women. It also involves criticizing
people for acts that threaten a woman's integrity, becoming a feminist respects others,
commending each other, expressing inspiration and strength to one other and this I
believe is the meaning of a real woman. The empowerment of women does not
pg. 7
necessarily involve bringing others up. A individual who empowers each other and
courageously recognizes and fights for their freedom and encourages others.
There are always some traditional FIlipina in the country, others are moderate and both
should be valued. Several still believe it is necessary to be pure and virgin particularly
before marriage, and others still don't matter, I think we have different points of view in
life and we should always value different decisions and points of view in life. For me,
whether or not a woman is virgin does not matter, because our life choices do not define
them as a whole, because it doesn't mean that you've engaged in pre-marital sex, we
must be open-minded and understand that people can do everything they can to make
people happy, as long as they don't hurt others. We need to consider it if somebody
doesn't want to get married. When somebody doesn't want a kid, honor their choices.
Honor the choices. The liberation of women starts from inside, so that others may
motivate themselves.
PART 4
A.)
The legacy of our national hero Dr. Rizal can be seen in the acts of Mr. Bernardo
as he is trying to fight the corrupt justice system of the Philippines. He filed an
annulment of judgment or compromise agreement against the Mayor Olivarez of the
City Government of Paranaque as they were being abusive of their power. Just like Dr.
Rizal, He wanted to give justice to the system and to what is right even though his own
life would be in danger. Dr. Rizal made sure that even though he knew that he won’t win
with the justice system back in his time, he still chose to fight back.
There are these two smart guys who are legends of our nation in Philippine
history. Both of them have been struggling for freedom in this country, with a specific
timeline, but with the same strategy and theory. The independence which we enjoy
today does not even survive without brave men like them. Dr. This country's national
pg. 8
hero, Jose Rizal, was an intellectual, creative and humble-hearted individual. This guy
was exceptional with everything he cared of. In view of a Filipino man's lack of
accessibility in education at the period, he courageously protected his Philippine peers
and took his education to the height at which he would protect the rights of Filipinos.
They are Dr. Rizal and Mr. Bernardo.
The Spanish friars' persecution of Indios rendered him bold to reveal our own
country's ruthless lie and abuse. In this fight between a man and a entire government
that is corrupt and violent, Dr. Jose Rizal has never refused to risk his life and family to
escape the Spain regime's anomalies. While Dr Jose Rizal has chosen to oppose this
dictatorship, he still goes down the road of smartness and prefers a nonviolent way to
strategize a change to serve the majority of Filipinos who owned this country originally.

strategize a change to serve the majority of Filipinos who owned this country originally.
This man wanted to return to his homeland, to inform and encourage more Filipino
citizens in his mission, given the heat of his name in the sight of the Lions and the
chance to get devoted to it,. Dr Jose Rizal's switch to the chess game led him to be
"tested" by the Spaniards' pawns. As predicted, the unjust legal frameworks preclude
and determine the execution of Dr. Jose Rizal when caught by his adversaries. He died
in war with his dignity and proudly led many Filipinos to struggle for our rights and equal
rights, especially for the poor people of the Philippines.
In the case of the brother of our Rizal prof Sir. Bernardo is an example of
maladministration of justice. Meaning inefficient or dishonest administration or
mismanagement. Like in the time of Rizal, courts of justice in the Philippines were
extremely corrupt. Verily, as far as blunted Filipinos were concerned, they were courts
of "injustice." The Spanish judges, tax officers (prosecuting attorneys) and other court
officials were incompetent, venal and mostly lawless. Justice was costly, biased and
pg. 9
sluggish. Poor Filipinos did not have access to the courts, because they could not afford
the high legal action expenses. Power, social status, and skin tone were paramount
factors in winning a court case. Whatever the wealth of facts, a rich man or a Spaniard
whose skin was white, victory in any legal action is easily achieved. Judicial trials were
so sluggish and sloppy that delaying justice was easy. And justice deferred, as a
common proverb says,' is justice denied,' thus linked to John Foreman, a British eye
witness to the Philippines ' last years of Spanish sovereignty. A legal action at a trial
was a calamity to the Filipino people. As in a simple case, the costs incurred frequently
exceeded the value of the property at question, such that in many cases the legislators
at the end of the long tussle became impoverished. Legal trials dragged on for several
years during which either the suspects escaped or the records were lost.
Mr Jonathan Bernardo was an exceptionally talented public servant to change
and didn't anticipate this dirty political game in this land. In his view, most elected
leaders or public officers are more crooked. And that his survival was threatened every
day, because he was white sheep against the starving wolves and/or endless spines of
those crooked officials. When the battle goes on, he has put an case against the Mayor
at the Ombudsman 's court. The lawsuit he brought in lawsuit of wrongdoing with the
mayor is related to an unlawful tax amnesty granted to a big city organization. The
amnesty tax earned by the D.M. Wenceslao Group culminated in just the owners and
the Mayor benefitting 453 million (pesos). A large sum of money will be used in
estimates to fund the expenditure of the Paranaque LGU City of Local Government.
Through the battles with Mayor Olivarez a lapse or weakness of the brave guy,
Mr. Jonathan Bernardo, was seen and arrested and planned to be killed by a man of
honesty who would spill the rotten smell of a perverted officer because of the power of
the opponents who could purely manipulate every chess piece in the LGU. While caught
and imprisoned, he still has the bravery and zeal to fight, still Mayor Olivarez is an
influencer. With the brave mind and the honest core of this guy, the case persists and
the inquiry into the Mayor's corruption continues. He proceeds to support and stand with
other unfortunate Filipinos to this mostly sacrificial and life tilting tale.
pg. 10
The image of Jonathan Bernardo's national icon, this young and courageous
man, has been too far from condemning the government of Paranaque City's repression
and abuse. He is still fighting through the judicial or legal channels until now. During his
tenure Dr. Jose Rizal committed this courageous act due to the same theory that Mr
Jonathan Bernardo believes in. The principle leads to success in showing the corruption
and oppression of the Spaniards by Mayor Olivarez.
B.)
Like in the justice system now in the current administration, for example is the
extra-judicial killings done without legal process. Many lives were lost just because of
the government being so quick in pointing or giving sanctions even if they’re not liable of
the crime. This happen a lot in our country and no one is safe from it. It’s still happening
until now.
Being here in this country is like living on your own. You can’t trust the
government of your future. I am not a fan of the current administration. The so-called
“Pro-poor” government is not that pro-poor at all. Many of the poor still gets no attention
even from the local governments. Many say that justice is only for the rich and now I
know why. Although this judicial system is already corrupt many years ago, I still believe
that there is still hope for this country for our next generation will be in charge of what
the is the true meaning of “change is coming.”
In the Spanish period and now that Mr. Jonathan Bernardo as well as myself live, the
constitutional and legal structure has certain parallels with a particular raise on the
throne and power over the government. In the Spanish, government and church time,
the political and judicial issue is the duty of the Spanish friars. As a consequence, for a
lot of years the Spaniards became untouchable. The resources and property that the
Philippines will have can be abused. To the modern day, the main distinction is that the
Spanish control the Filipinos in the period of Dr. Jose Rizal, but the trained Filipinos in
this tragic day are more influential than the less privileged Filipino. This has only been
seen here that the inequality and democratic structure are different in Spain and
presently. Our raise at this time was greedy and cares not for our people.
