Understanding Discipleship Principles

God desires for all Christians to become disciples and make disciples of others. The Bible outlines several characteristics of a disciple, including being an obedient follower of Christ, abiding in his word, applying scripture to one's life, demonstrating love, serving others, being teachable and humble. True discipleship requires counting the costs of following Jesus, such as being willing to suffer for one's faith. The document encourages self-reflection on one's commitment to discipleship and developing accountability relationships to help one another grow as disciples of Christ.
