Chapter III

This chapter outlines the methodology used in the study. The study will use a descriptive research design to understand the relationship between the number of deployed law enforcers and crime rates in Tacurong City from 2018-2019. A questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale will be administered to 100 criminology students selected randomly. Their responses will be analyzed using statistical tests like weighted mean and t-test to determine the extent and effect of the number of deployed law enforcers on crime rates.

  • Chapter III: Methodology: Describes the research design, data gathering procedures, and statistical treatment used in the study.

Chapter III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter represents the research design, locale of the study, the respondents

of the study, data gathering instruments, data gathering procedures and statistical

treatment.

Research Design

This study will use a descriptive method of research. Descriptive research can be

either quantitative or qualitative. It involves collection quantitative information that can

be tabulated along a continuum in numerical form. Glass and Hopkins, (1984). This

research design will be used in order to provide a vehicle for the collection and

interpretation of data in reference to the statistical relationship of stated variables as

viewed by the respondents.

Locale of the Study

This study will be conducted at Tacurong City, particularly at the Tacurong City

Police Station from year 2018-2019.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study will consist of 100 students from the Criminology

Department. The researcher will use random sampling technique in determining the

respondents. Random sampling is a method of selecting a sample (n) from the universe

(N) such that each member of the population has an equal chance of being selected as

the sample. (Basilio, [Link]. 2003).

Data Gathering Instruments

The study is descriptive in nature; the researchers will formulate a questionnaire

on “Number of Deployed Law Enforcers and Crime Rates”, after thorough review of the

literature and studies on this topic. The rating scale of the questionnaire use the five-

point Likert Scale with the responses to choose ranging from 5 which means Always; 4

as often; 3 as sometimes; 2 as seldom; and1 as never.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers will formulate the questionnaire and presented to the adviser for

checking, and it will be validated by the members of the panel. The researcher

proceeded to ask permission and approval from the school president. The adviser and

the research coordinator noted the Letter of Permission. The researchers will administer

the instruments to the respondents. The researcher collected back the questionnaire

immediately after completion for analysis and interpretation.

Statistical Treatment

The data will be gathered, tallied and analyzed to answer the research problems,

the means of the responses are computed and only the highest and the lowest are

emphasize in the presentation of findings. To answer the extent of the number of

deployed law enforcers and crime rates, weighted mean is use. For determining the
significant effect of deployed law enforcers and the rise of the criminality, t-test will be

used.

For interpretation of the mean responses, the following 5-point rating scale will be

used to describe the level of deployed law enforcers and the rise of criminality.

Range Interpretation

4.50-5.00 Very High

3.50-4.49 High

2.50-3.49 Moderately High

1.50-2.49 Low

1.00-1.49 Very Low
