Fire and Ice

By: Robert Frost
Some say the world will end in fire;
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for the destruction of ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

I like this one because it makes you stop and think about what
could happen. I like its ideas of how the world may end. It shows you
just how much, a certain mystery it really is. It evokes the feeling of
knowing that we are not as smart as we think we are and the
knowledge that we still have so much more to learn from the world. I
also think it sheds light on how stupid we, the humanity, might really
be. That is what I think it means.
It has a little bit of rhyme here and there such as, “desire and fire
or twice and ice.” It uses couplets every now and then, too. This poem I
think is an example of a concrete poem. His tone towards his subject is
the pure yearning for knowledge and I think, wonder towards the
mystery shrouding the end of the world, as we know it. It gives off the
feeling of the stupidity of humanity by giving the opinions and beliefs
of people but, no evidence.

Summer
By: Walter Dean Meyers
I like hot, hot days
Sweat is what you got days
Bugs buzzin from cousin to cousin
Juices dripping
Running ripping
Catch the one you love days

Birds peeping
Old men sleeping
Lazy days, daises lay
Beaming and dreaming
Of hot days, hot days
Sweat is what you got days

I chose this poem because I love summer! This poem I

think describes, very accurately, summer. It I think sheds light
on how funny, full and full of pros and cons summer is. It gives
me the feeling of anticipation and excitement for the coming of
summer.
Walter uses rhyme in his poem, such as “Juices dripping,
Running and ripping,” quite often which means, this poem
contains a few couplets. This poem has two stanzas. This is
definitely a rhymed poem. And it does have a little bit of
rhythm. And in a way, it is a type of concrete poem. It gets its
meaning across by describing some of what goes on the
summer.

I’m with U
By: Avril Lavinge
I’m standing on the bridge I’m
Waiting in the dark I
Thought that you’d be here by
Now There’s
Nothing but the rain no
Footsteps on the ground I’m
Listening but there’s no
Sound
Isn’t anyone trying to
Find me
Won’t somebody come take me
home It’s a
damn cold
night Trying to figure
out this
life won’t you
take me by the hand Take me
somewhere new I don’t
know who you are but
I…I’m with
You
I’m with
You

I chose this song because I think; it looks at love in a kind of

carefree manner. I like how it describes her love as if; the person she
loved was a stranger. To me it means that you and I can love who ever
we want, even if it is a complete stranger and that you don’t always
have to hide it. It evokes happiness and a feeling of being free to love
as I want.
It doesn’t have rhyme but it does have rhythm. It is an example
of free verse poetry. It uses a metaphor when it makes it seem, as if
her lover was a complete stranger something, I’m quite sure, he is not.
It is a ballad because it is a song-like poem. It also uses imagery
because it uses words such as “I’m standing on the bridge...” to create
images that you can almost see. This is definitely a lyric poem because
it has a very rhythmical musical tone or feel to it.

I will have loved...

By: Fe Berg Translated By: Johannes Beilharz
I will have loved she thought
one half day
as it was raining
you'd never kissed a face this wet before
I will have loved in the darkest corner of this low dive
here's where I wanted to stay
I will have loved in a tiny hotel
surrounded by flowered wall papers
the morning brought many swallows
and one grand song
I will have loved she thought
and we did not have time
my love had many faces
I was a tree and she was a tree
but we flew in different directions

I like how it twists and contorts the real true depth of love or
his love. To me it means love can take shape in any form or
size, ect.
This poem is an example of free verse because it has no
rhythmical pattern. It uses some imagery such as, when he
describes the hotel room. This poem has three stanzas. He uses
a metaphor when he talks about the lover as if, she were a tree.
He also uses personification when, he makes the tree seem like
the girl lover. He gets his meaning across by using
characteristics of poetry

A Bad Case of the Giggles

By: Bruce Lansky
I found a book of poems.
I brought the book to school.
and every time I look at it
I giggle like a fool.

Today in social studies

I opened up the book.
I started giggling right away
from just a single look.
I’m croaking like a bullfrog.
I’m braying like a mule.
These aren’t sounds you’re supposed to make
While studying in school.

The more I try to stop it,

the louder that I howl.
I’m squawking like a parrot,
and hooting like an owl.

I’m making a commotion;

the teacher is upset.
I’m losing my position here
as teacher’s favorite pet!

My giggling is contagious;
my friends have joined in.
The teacher’s getting angry.
We’re making quite a din.

The whole darned class is giggling.

Not one of us can stop.
The teacher says that if we can’t
he’ll call the hallway cop.
The room next door has heard us.
And now they’re giggling too.
The sound of giggling travels fast.
The school sounds like a zoo.
And now the teacher’s giving up.
He cannot teach today.
The principal’s declaring it
A giggling holiday.

I chose this poem because I find it funny. It means pure

laughter to me. For every time I read this poem I cannot help
smiling. This poem evokes the understanding frustration of
school and the funny tickling sensation of laughter.
This poem has rhythm and a bit of a beat. This poem also
shows a bit of connotation. This poem also uses metaphors
when he says the boy sounds like a mule ect. He also uses
figurative language when he says that the boy sounds like all
these different animals. That also means he uses
onomatopoeia.
