GUIDANCE NOTES

GRADUATE MASTERS AWARDS APPLICATION FORM


1. This application form is for Graduate Masters Awards applicants who intend to study at UCL.
2. Further details of who is eligible to apply for the Postgraduate Support Scheme are in Appendix A.
3. Please complete the form electronically by typing all information. If this is not possible, please explain
why and alternatively complete the form clearly in black ink.
4. All questions must be answered. Don't leave sections blank. If a section does not apply to you, please
indicate that it is not applicable (N/A).
5. Read the Selection Criteria of each scheme carefully. All schemes with a financial selection criterion
require sections 28 to 31 to be fully completed.
6. Only applications for the Alumni Scholarship, Ardalan Family Scholarship, Andrew Szmidla Postgraduate
Scholarship, Brown Family Bursary, Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme, Santander Masters
Scholarship require supporting academic documents as per section 36 on the application form. For
these schemes, supporting documents are mandatory.
7. Academic reference/s should be sent directly from the referee to UCL, via email
(studentfunding@[Link]) or posted to UCL (address below). References must be received on or
before the deadline published on the UCL scholarship webpage in order to be valid.
8. Applications for the Postgraduate Support Scheme require documentation of household income.
For UK resident students, you should provide a complete award notification letter from Student
Loans Company for 2014/15. For EU resident students, you should provide official translated
documentation such as tax returns or 3 months of recent bank statements which support your
expectation of your household situation during your year of study (section 29). Alternatively if your
university was running an undergraduate bursary scheme for EU students based on SLC income
assessment you may provide instead evidence of your bursary award and evidence from your university
of how the amount of your award relates to the SLC income assessment.
9. Where required please send copies of official documents (if in a foreign language then an English
translation must also be provided), not original documents. Please do not send any irreplaceable

10. Please do not enclose CVs or any other documents not requested.
11. Return the complete application form to UCL Student Funding Office via email
(studentfunding@[Link]) or, if unable to use email, post it to: Student Funding Office, UCL Registry,
University College London, Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT, United Kingdom
12. All complete applications must reach UCL Student Funding Office on, or before the date of the
deadline published on the UCL scholarship webpage in order to be valid. We do not accept incomplete,
late or faxed applications.
13. Applications sent by post with date stamps prior to the deadline will be accepted even if they arrive late
as we understand that postal services may be delayed.
14. All applications received by the relevant scholarship application deadline are treated equally.
15. If applying by post, please do not fold your application, if possible, and use an A4 envelope to post it to
us. We recommend you keep a copy of your application for your own records.
16. Unfortunately, we are not able to acknowledge receipt of application forms.
17. Only successful applicants and reserve list candidates will be notified via email, so please make sure you
include a valid email address on the form.
18. Please do not include your scholarship application with your application for admission. Each application
must be sent separately to the relevant sections within UCL.

Appendix A: Postgraduate Support Scheme eligibility2012 cohort tuition fee criterion


The eligibility criteria for the Postgraduate Support Scheme are on the UCL website: [Link]/scholarships
In the criteria is the requirement the applicant must be progressing from an undergraduate degree programme
for which they were charged the higher tuition fee rate introduced in 2012/13 and received no government tuition
fee grant.
The following categories of students will be treated as meeting this criterion:

English students entering undergraduate study at any UK institution from September 2012;
Non-UK EU students entering undergraduate study at any English institution from September 2012;
Scottish students entering undergraduate study at any English, Welsh or NI institutions from September
2012;
Northern Irish students entering undergraduate study at any English, Welsh or Scottish institution from
September 2012.

The following categories of students will NOT be treated as meeting this criterion:

Students from Wales who entered undergraduate study from September 2012, since the Welsh
Government through the Student Loans Company provided tuition fee grants to all Welsh students to
cover the increase in fees;
Students from EU countries outside the UK who entered undergraduate study from September 2012 at
an institution in Wales, if they were in receipt of a tuition fee grant from the Student Loans Company that
covered the increase in fees;
Students from Scotland or other EU countries outside the UK who entered undergraduate study from
September 2012 at an institution in Scotland, if their fees were paid for them by the Student Awards
Agency for Scotland;
Students from Northern Ireland or other EU countries outside the UK who entered undergraduate study
from September 2012 at an institution in Northern Ireland;
Students who studied for their undergraduate degree outside the UK.
