Effective Visual Aids for Speeches

Visual aids can help illustrate concepts for a speech on media violence. While showing violent acts themselves would not be appropriate, statistics on media violence could be made more understandable through visual representations like graphs. Different types of visual aids include bar graphs, pie graphs, flowcharts, drawings, photographs, objects, and the presenter themselves. When creating visual aids, common mistakes to avoid include having too much text, too many words per line, excessive use of capital letters, tight spacing, too much artwork, too many colors, too many different typefaces, and overuse of italics and underlining.
