12 Steps to Safe Electrical Isolation

Twelve steps are outlined to safely isolate electrical circuits and equipment for maintenance or repair work. The steps include checking for approval to isolate, identifying the type of supply system and circuit to work on, selecting an approved voltage indicator, turning off the appropriate isolation device, verifying the circuit is dead using the voltage indicator, fitting lockout devices and warning labels, rechecking the voltage indicator is working, performing the work, removing lockouts and restoring power, completing live testing and certification.
