GUARDRAILS
1. 2. 3. 4. A standard guardrail consists of a top rail, intermediate rail, toeboard, and posts, and has a vertical height of 42 inches from upper surface of top rail to floor or platform. The top rail has a smooth-surface with a strength to withstand, without failure, a 200 pound force applied within two inches of the top edge in any outward and downward direction at any point along the top edge. The intermediate rail shall be halfway between the top rail and floor or platform. A stair railing shall be constructed with the vertical height not more than 34 inches and not less than 30 inches from the upper surface of the top rail to the surface of the tread in line with face of the riser at the forward edge of the tread.
