The Captain aka Murray Calder grew up in a house of jazz and blues. He started DJing way back in 1983 using a Technics double cassette deck and two copies of Now That’s What I Call Music at his wee sister’s 8th birthday party. His father did not approve.

He properly cut his DJ teeth on the outdoor party scene in the frozen north of Scotland where he took pleasure in bringing parties back from early morning tekno doom with sunrise sets that coaxed people out of their tents and onto their feet.

This eventually led to his first night, Soulfood, in a Perth basement where he went on to meet his future collaborators at the Glasgow club night Freq. First at the infamous Soundhaus, then at the world famous Sub Club, he warmed up for the likes of DBX, Hardfloor, John Tejada and Akufen.

For the last few years, he’s been playing at Strut! where he lays down a steady stream of funk, soul, disco, afro, house, jazz, and whatever the hell else he feels like as long as it moves your feet.
