Individual workers, team leaders and professional project managers are asking for a simple, consolidated work management solution that can flex and scale to meet their needs.
The new Planner brings together task management, collaborative work management, and enterprise work management into a single online planner experience. It’s designed to meet the needs of your workforce and scale with you into the future.
We don’t expect this change to impact existing user scenarios or functionality for Project customers. Existing Project for the web customers will get access to the premium capabilities in the new Planner app in Teams as part of their Project for the web subscription, while continuing to have access to the web experience.
There will be no change in name or product experience for the Project Online desktop client, Project Online, or Project Server.
The new Planner web experience will be available later in 2024.
Your work and projects within Project for the web, as well as all the existing features, won’t be impacted. You’ll still be able to access existing work in Project for the web. You’ll also be able to view your work in the new Planner app in Teams.
For customers currently using Project for the web, existing capabilities will continue to be available in Project for the web (as well as in the new Planner app in Teams), followed by a new Planner web experience later in 2024. Pricing for these capabilities is not impacted.
In April 2024, the Tasks by Planner and To Do app was renamed Planner. This app received the new Planner experience—bringing together your work across plans, projects, and to do lists. Below are some additional updates coming soon:
Planner for the web:
The new Planner for the web will start rolling out in Fall 2024, ensuring that experiences are aligned across the web version of Planner and the new Planner in Teams.
Project for the web:
Project for the web remains available with no change to its existing functionality.
You can now view your Project for the web tasks in the new Planner in Teams.
Users will also be able to access Project for the web capabilities in Planner for the web once it is rolled out to their organization.
Microsoft Project is not being retired.
Capabilities in Project for the web are becoming part of the new Microsoft Planner. Project for desktop, Project Online, and Project Server will continue to be available and supported for new and existing customers.
Customers currently using Project for the web will be able to access the existing product features in the new Planner.
Additional capabilities of the new Planner include:
A credit card is required to begin a one-month trial. The duration of the trial varies by the month you sign up.
