About us

The Center for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (CAFE) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst integrates research and extension outreach in agriculture, food systems and the environment. The Center is the contemporary standard bearer of the university’s land-grant origins. It connects the University with business, policy and public interest stakeholders in the state, including agriculture, the horticultural 'green industries,' environmental decisionmakers and food system advocates. UMass Extension (including 4-H Youth Development, Extension Agriculture Program and Nutrition Education Program), Massachusetts Agricultural Experiment Station, Cranberry Research Station, and the Water Resources Research Center are all units of CAFE. Additionally, the Center operates four research and education farms. CAFE is based in the College of Natural Sciences at UMass Amherst and works with other Schools and Colleges across campus.
