Military operations run around the clock, and so does the support that keeps them moving. On a base, that means keeping everything ready at any hour, so forces can train, deploy and operate with confidence. That's the work our teams do across more than 45 military sites in the UK, from marshalling aircraft to running operations centres and keeping bases safe, compliant and ready. At RAF Brize Norton, we've been doing it for over 25 years. Underpinning all of it is our PROTECT framework - People, Resilience, Operational Readiness, Transition, Expertise, Collaboration and Transformation - delivered by people who know what it takes to stay mission-ready. ✈️ A busy few days at the recent Farnborough International Airshow for the Serco team! ✈️ One theme dominated the valuable conversations we had at the Airshow: in today’s world, the need to move quickly to bolster national resilience and readiness has never been greater. We need a step change in the way defence procurement works, a new model for government and industry to partner more closely, earlier on, to shape shared goals, design processes accordingly, and deliver the outcomes we need. Some highlights: 1️⃣ Our global Chief Executive Anthony Kirby met partners and customers from around the world to discuss how Serco’s capabilities can build resilience and readiness. 2️⃣ Our UK & Europe Chief Executive Fiona Walters spoke at the Aerospace Global Forum Finance Summit, joining a panel of industry peers to discuss the future of defence investment across procurement, funding, and partnering. 3️⃣ Members of our defence team participated in conversations and discussions with industry peers on matters including the need for government and industry, and allies, to work closely together to bolster military readiness. Serco enables our Armed Forces to be mission ready, providing essential capabilities as Britain enhances its preparedness. We will continue the conversation, engaging with government and working with the wider defence enterprise to support resilience and readiness across society. #FarnboroughAirshow #Defence #MissionReadiness | Serco

Transformation doesn't always start with a major programme. Sometimes it starts with a small improvement that solves a real operational challenge. In the latest article in our enabling complex base operations series, Matthew Wakefield explores how a culture of continual improvement can deliver meaningful change across complex military environments. From streamlining processes and improving resource utilisation to empowering frontline teams to drive innovation, the article examines how marginal gains can compound into significant operational benefits. Matt highlights how improvements driven by operational feedback, collaboration and data can enhance efficiency, resilience and service delivery - without waiting for a formal transformation programme to arrive. Because in mission-critical environments, transformation isn't something that sits above delivery. It happens through delivery. 🔗 Read the full article 👇 #Transformation #ContinuousImprovement | Serco

The race for the Navy of the future is already underway and the technology exists today. What matters now is how fast navies can integrate it. Our teams at Serco have been leading the way on maritime autonomy, including the design, development, build and deployment of the USX-1 Defiant, delivered in partnership with the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Anthony Kirby, our Group Chief Executive, shared his thinking on where maritime autonomy is heading with UK Defence Journal. Working with naval experts across the globe, our team has identified five key challenges that governments, militaries, industry and academia must solve together to turn today's autonomous capability into tomorrow's fleet-wide advantage, as threats grow and defence becomes ever more complex. Military readiness depends on more than operational capability. It depends on the strength of the whole force behind it. As the RAF continues to prepare for evolving operational demands, industry partners have an increasingly important role to play in helping maintain readiness, resilience and service continuity. In the latest article in our enabling complex base operations series, Matthew Wakefield explores how a Whole Force approach - built on collaboration between military personnel and industry partners - can help defence organisations adapt to changing requirements while maintaining operational output. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience supporting RAF Brize Norton, the article examines how Serco's PROTECT framework brings together operational expertise, workforce agility and resilience to support mission readiness under pressure. Because future readiness won't depend on the performance of individual organisations alone, but on how effectively the wider defence ecosystem works together.
