“What If Trash Could Teach?”

Inspired by Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama we’re reminded that waste is not the end of value, but the beginning of a new story. Just like Mahama turns jute sacks and rusted metal into monuments of memory and resistance, we too can turn waste into wonder — in our homes, our habits, and our hoods.

🧩 Recycling Tip of the Week:

Don’t Trash the Textile. Recycle It. Old curtains, jute bags, cotton shirts these can be reimagined! Textiles are the second largest polluting industry, but you can help by:

  • Dropping old fabric but wearable and presentable to fellow human at orphanages or gift anyone who can make use of it.
  • Reusing jute bags as shopping totes
  • Turning worn clothes into cleaning cloths or art material

📌 Want to know how our waste habit is affecting the environment.? Stay tuned for our upcoming documentary on WasteVest

🌿 Ibrahim Mahama’s Jute Sacks, Ghana

Artist Ibrahim Mahama covers entire buildings in stitched-together used jute sacks, once used to export Ghanaian cocoa — to make colonial structures confront postcolonial truths. His work reminds us that waste holds memory, and we must learn to see value in the discarded.

🔖 Quote of the Week:

"When you see rust, he sees memory. When you see junk, he sees justice." — Inspired by the art of Ibrahim Mahama

Let this be your reminder that recycling isn’t just a chore — it’s a chance to reframe our environment and reclaim our future.

💼 From My Desk — Bode’s Note

Having just completed my certification in Sustainable Waste Management from Lagos Business School Sustainability Centre my resolve is deeper than ever: We must build a culture of everyday recycling, not just as a lifestyle choice but as an economic model — one that adds value, restores dignity, and fuels community impact.

That’s exactly what WasteVest is about:

✔️ Partnering with recyclers, artists, schools, and local governments ✔️ Transforming recyclables into resources ✔️ Educating our community with creativity, not shame

Let’s keep recycling personal. Let’s keep it powerful. Let’s keep it fun. We’re not just collecting waste we’re reforming waste economies.

📣 This Week from WasteVest:

🎨 Creative Recycling Series: Turn old plastics into plant pots or sell to recycling partners like us!
