This month, energy takes us in many directions. We begin with our latest Annual General Meeting, where José Manuel Entrecanales, Chairman of ACCIONA Energía, made it clear that "renewable electricity is a national security asset." From there, we head to Kentucky in the United States to explore our new photovoltaic plant, before looking at why we've doubled our energy storage capacity in Chile. We also share the discovery of a 5th–4th century BC shipwreck uncovered during preliminary works for our offshore wind project in Calabria, Italy. JOSÉ MANUEL ENTRECANALES: "RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY IS A NATIONAL SECURITY ASSET"
A new global energy geopolitics, accelerating electrification of demand and greater financial maturity are three forces shaping the current state of the energy sector. This is what José Manuel Entrecanales, chairman of ACCIONA Energía, highlighted at our latest Annual General Meeting. He also stated that "renewable power generation is no longer simply an alternative; it has become a national security asset."
For her part, Arantza Ezpeleta, chief executive officer of ACCIONA Energía, presented the 2025 results. The company reported revenues of €2.93 billion and EBITDA of €1.55 billion (+37.7%), in line with the guidance provided to the market. You can find more information on their remarks here.
TOWARD THE KENTUCKY SUN: NEW PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANT IN THE UNITED STATES
Fleming Solar Farm (235MWp), in Kentucky, will be our next photovoltaic plant in the United States. Site mobilization will begin in the coming weeks, a key step toward bringing the project online in May 2028. This facility will be our fifth photovoltaic plant and 18th renewable energy asset overall in the United States, where we currently have 3GW of installed renewable energy capacity, including photovoltaic, solar-thermal, wind, and energy storage assets. 1 NEW GWH OF STORAGE IN CHILE
In 2025, renewables in Chile hit record highs, and 2026 is following the same path. The challenge? Making sure all that generated energy isn't wasted and that the power system gains strength and reliability. That's why we're pleased to share that we've doubled our energy storage plans in the country with a new 1GWh battery energy storage system (BESS).
The new facility, which will be integrated into El Romero photovoltaic plant (246MWp) in the Atacama Desert, will have a capacity of 196MW/980MWh and will be able to supply 196MW of clean energy for five consecutive hours. Commercial operations are expected to begin by the end of 2027. Discover more about this new project.
WE DISCOVER A 5TH–4TH CENTURY BC SHIPWRECK IN CALABRIA, ITALY
In Spain, during construction of the Extremadura I, II and III photovoltaic complex, we discovered the Cortijo Lobato site, home to remains spanning from 2800 BC to the 5th century AD. Now, in Italy, a new archaeological survey ahead of the development of an offshore wind project in Calabria has brought to light a shipwreck dating from the 5th–4th centuries BC.

The finding, which contains more than 300 amphorae, could provide valuable insights into trade routes and maritime exchanges in the ancient Mediterranean, as well as the production and distribution of wine in Magna Graecia, the historically Greek-speaking area of southern Italy. It all began in 2017, when the authorities of the island of Tilos decided to commit to sustainability. The first step was installing a wind turbine and enough solar panels to supply its entire population. But the transformation didn't stop with energy.
