Not every career goes according to plan. For Lori Kline, an unexpected turn led to a career she loves and a chance to shape the future of cancer care. When a back injury disrupted Lori's work as an ICU/CCU nurse, she took a temporary position supporting oncology research. More than three decades later, she's still at the UW Health | Carbone Cancer Center Rockford, and continues to be passionate about bringing clinical trials to patients. Since joining the program in 1989, Lori has helped connect patients with studies that expand treatment options and advance cancer care. She credits the patients who participate in those studies as the true heroes of clinical research. Her advice for anyone considering joining the oncology clinical trials team? "If you are willing and motivated to learn, you can and will enjoy it as I have." Learn more: https://uw.health/4apb2sH

Continuous learning is one of the greatest investments we can make in improving patient care. I'm grateful to have participated in Precision and Safety in Pediatric Oncology Planning (PedROC 8.0), organized by The Dorcas Cancer Foundation Education. This session reinforced the critical role of precision, safety, and collaboration in pediatric radiation oncology. As healthcare professionals, staying updated with evolving knowledge and best practices enables us to deliver safer, more effective, and patient-centered cancer care. A sincere thank you to the organizers , and speakers, in particular to Dr Graeme Lazarus who contributed to this impactful learning experience. Looking forward to applying these insights in practice and continuing to grow professionally. #PediatricOncology #MedicalPhysics #CancerCare #ContinuousLearning #ProfessionalDevelopment #PatientSafety #MedicalEducation #Oncology #Healthcare #PedROC #TheDorcasCancerFoundation

Cancer care for older adults extends well beyond the clinic. A plenary session at SIOG 2026 addresses exactly that, on 6 November. Four oral abstracts cover how caregivers make decisions when cognitive impairment is in the picture, the time burden that metastatic cancer places on patients' lives, how AI can turn comprehensive geriatric assessment data into usable clinical and research information, and what older patients and their primary care teams say about navigating cancer care together. Presenters join from the United States, Australia, and several other countries. "Empathy in healthcare is far more than simple emotional comfort. What breast cancer patients need most is not an optimal treatment plan, but simply to be heard, seen, and acknowledged." 🩷 Prof Yanni Wu, Deputy Director, JBI Nanfang Nursing Centre for Evidence-Based Practice and Meiqin Luo share, in the latest #WorldEBHCDay blog how their team is turning evidence into empathy, building an AI-powered support tool co-designed with breast cancer patients themselves, because "emotional distress of patients with breast cancer is often expressed through fragmented online conversations rather than clinical scenarios." 📔Read the blog to explore their work in bridging AI, evidence, and empathy in breast cancer care 👇 https://lnkd.in/g_vBuf7n #JBIEBHC

A new article in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health calls for a more coordinated and fit-for-purpose approach to drug development in childhood cancers: https://lnkd.in/gvpTVuTD The authors argue that pediatric oncology programs should begin with a clear Target Product Profile, helping academia, industry, regulators, advocates, and funders align earlier around the clinical need, development strategy, and path to approval and access. I was glad to see two former colleagues, Martha Donoghue and Dominik Karres, contribute to this work. I had the opportunity to support several pediatric oncology initiatives alongside them, and this paper reflects the kind of cross-sector collaboration needed to improve drug development and access for children with cancer. #ClinicalResearch #CNS #Cancer Precision For Medicine

With #WCLC26 just one month away, the Journal of Thoracic Oncology is reflecting on 20 years of patient advocacy and the individuals and organizations that have helped drive meaningful change across the lung cancer community. Patient advocates have challenged stigma, raised awareness of persistent gaps in funding and care, elevated the patient voice, and helped ensure that research and treatment continue moving toward what matters most to patients. There is still work to do, but the evolution of patient advocacy over the past two decades demonstrates the impact patients and advocates can have on the future of lung cancer care.
