I hope this doesn't ruffle too many feathers. Innovation is my ideology, my political party, and my center - has been for decades. Leading these efforts inside some of the largest organizations in the world has been the privilege of a lifetime. This is the reason why it's so disappointing that the role of innovation leaders, and Chief Innovation Officers more specifically, hasn't lived up to its potential. With the dawn of the Great Transition, the age of intelligent technologies, coupled with radical changes in politics, demographics, and economics, there's never been a bigger opportunity and a wider opening for innovation leaders to usher in a new era. I took some time last week while on vacation to put pen to paper and attempt to articulate the opportunity of the Chief Innovation Officer and the current state of the role. I hope you'll take a look. Link to article: https://lnkd.in/gUD3qfBz Welcome to Human Innovation. #humaninnovation Human Innovation Institute

The December issue of CSEP Journal will, I am sure, be a treat for those who research not only the cultural field but also the role of Culture in sustainable development and well-being. Researchers and professionals are expected to propose their latest research for publication by the end of October.
What if we stopped thinking about culture as a sector—and started seeing it as an ecosystem? Culture is not created by institutions alone. It grows through networks of people, organizations, communities, businesses, and public actors who collaborate, innovate, and generate value together. That's why we're launching a Call for Papers on "Mapping the Cultural Ecosystem." We invite researchers and practitioners alike to explore how culture intersects with society, organizations, entrepreneurship, public policy, creative industries, digital transformation, sustainability, and beyond. Whether you work in: 🎭 Culture and the creative sectors 🚀 Entrepreneurship and innovation 🏛️ Public policy and governance 📊 Management, economics, and business 🌍 Sustainable development and tourism 💻 Digital cultures, AI, and media 🤝 Community development and social innovation ...your perspective can help us better understand how cultural ecosystems create social, economic, and public value. We particularly welcome: ✔️ Interdisciplinary research ✔️ Comparative and case studies ✔️ Methodological innovations ✔️ Practice-based contributions from professionals and cultural organizations Some of the most valuable insights emerge at the intersection of disciplines and sectors. If your work connects culture with business, governance, technology, communities, or societal change, we'd love to receive your contribution. Let's map the relationships, collaborations, and ideas that make cultural ecosystems thrive—and rethink culture as a driving force for resilient organizations, inclusive societies, and sustainable development. 📩 We look forward to your submissions and to expanding this conversation together. #CallForPapers #Culture #CulturalEcosystems #CreativeEconomy #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #PublicPolicy #Management #CreativeIndustries #Sustainability #InterdisciplinaryResearch #SocialInnovation

"Technology is only half the equation. Investing in people is what builds lasting organizational resilience." 💡 Spot-on insights from Isabela Moise, Product Owner at Aequilibrium, following the NextGEN Summit! From Minister Rick Glumac’s vision to double BC’s tech sector to Aequilibrium’s work in AI-driven immersive learning, the takeaway is clear: real competitive advantage comes from pairing deep human expertise with AI, not replacing it. Check out Isabela's full recap below! 👇 #AIforGood #WorkforceDevelopment #BCInnovation #TechBC #Aequilibrium #ImmersiveLearning #AEQ
🌐 On Saturday, leaders, founders, and investors gathered at the Anvil Centre for the NextGEN Summit, a powerful day dedicated to driving economic growth, technology adoption, and scaling future-ready businesses in BC. 🎙️ Opening the morning program, Hon. Rick Glumac, Minister of State for AI and New Technologies, set an inspiring tone for the entire summit. He shared BC’s ambitious vision to double the province’s tech sector to 400,000 jobs over the next decade and highlighted key provincial initiatives supporting commercialization and economic scaling. 💡 A standout takeaway from his address was that AI should augment human potential, not replace foundational knowledge. Over-relying on automated tools without building core expertise leaves critical capability gaps. True competitive advantage comes from pairing deep human expertise with modern AI capabilities. 🤝 This message strongly echoed a discussion we Aequilibrium had with the Minister had just a few days prior! We had the privilege of connecting directly with Minister Glumac to discuss how responsible AI adoption can drive workforce productivity, elevate capability development, and expand employment opportunities across British Columbia. Seeing these exact priorities championed on the summit stage underscored how aligned our ecosystem is on driving AI for Good. 🙌 The rest of the summit agenda was packed with actionable strategies, economic insights, and masterclasses from top leaders across sectors. A huge thank you and credit to all the speakers and organizers, including: 🇨🇦 Talaysay Campo for one of the most inspiring land acknowledgements I have ever had the pleasure to participate in, 📈 Laura Jones, President & CEO of BC Business Council, for a valuable perspective on our economic present and potential, and 🤝 Joslyn Young, CEO of Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade, on the intricacies of transforming every conversation into an opportunity. 🎯 As AI continues to transform how organizations operate, technology is only half the equation, while investing in people is what builds lasting organizational resilience. We are advancing workforce capability transformation through AI-driven VR immersive experiences. By combining realistic AI role-play with spatial simulation, we empower professionals in high-stakes industries like healthcare, enterprise, and academia to practice complex scenarios, bridge capability gaps, and achieve floor readiness with complete confidence. Let’s empower the future of the workforce together. 🚀 #Aequilibrium #AEQ #AIforGood #WorkforceDevelopment #NextGenSummit #BCInnovation #TechBC #Leadership #ImmersiveLearning #VRtraining

I've spent a significant amount of time tracking the deep tech investment cycle in the US, always keeping one truth in mind: the highest-return investment opportunities are almost never those projects that are mainstream from the start. Robert Nielsen is a landmark figure in deep tech investing. He dedicated his life to supporting overlooked, perceivedly high-risk scientific and industrial innovations. While most investors flocked to the flashy hot trends, he patiently nurtured complex, long-cycle projects that no one dared to touch. This resonates with my own investment journey. True excess returns don't come from blindly following market trends, but from unwavering conviction in your own in-depth research. For me, exceptional leadership means sticking to your path even when most people question your choices. #DeepTech #StrategicBelief #InvestmentMindset

🔦 𝗦𝗗𝗣 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 Twice a month on Tuesdays, we celebrate the #SDPMembers whose work, generosity, and curiosity help advance the practice of #DecisionExcellence. Today, we’re spotlighting Shona Bernard Chandler (MICDA), Senior Consultant at Catalyze APAC. Ask Shona what she does, and the answer goes far beyond a job title. She designs, writes, and teaches courses in decision making, leadership, and strategy at universities across Sydney, where she gets to introduce multidisciplinary students to the world of decision science. She also works with large organizations and government departments to design decision systems that are robust, inclusive, and academically sound. Her path into decision science started with a conversation with a friend who worked in decision analysis. Hearing about the many ways decision science could be applied immediately caught her attention. Her reaction? It seemed like something everyone should be doing. One thing that surprised her along the way was discovering just how much science sits behind decision making — the extensive research, literature, resources, and range of frameworks that can help us make better decisions. Shona has been an SDP member for five years. After first presenting online at an annual conference, she and her colleagues found something they were looking for: a community of people who care deeply about decision making. And she didn't just join that community — she helped expand it. 👏 Shona is the founder of the Australasian Chapter of SDP, creating a community for decision professionals across the region. Today, she’s also exploring an area of work that brings together decision science, history, culture, and inclusion: researching and writing about First Nations Australians' decision making — including how different values and priorities can shape decisions compared with Western approaches, and how organizations can better engage First Nations Australians as stakeholders and people impacted by decisions. And when she's not teaching, consulting, or researching, Shona is likely planning her next adventure. She says she loves travel above all else — and later this month, she's heading to Tonga to swim with the whales! 🐋🌊 There is one decision principle she keeps coming back to, particularly in an era of AI and increasingly powerful algorithms: “𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.” People make the decision, enact it, assess it, and live with its outcome. Technology can help us in new and exciting ways, but decision making remains fundamentally human. 👏👏👏 Thank you, Shona, for helping bring #decisionscience to new generations of #decisionmakers, building community across the globe, and reminding us that at the heart of every decision is a person. #SDPMemberSpotlight #DecisionQuality #DecisionMaking #DecisionExcellence #DecisionScience #Leadership #SocietyOfDecisionProfessionals

But wouldn't a Chief Innovation Officer be ok ruffling feathers? I agree with you, I don't think CIO's have lived up to the dream--but how many CEOs want to welcome a senior leader in disruption onto their team. Having an organizational posture of a desire for disrpution is part of it. That's tough--often necessary, but tough. Thanks for using your voice.
