Spoofing is so easy to do. And a mention to the that people tend to broadcast their phones ssid as a hotspot, presumably to share a single WiFi connection, unsecured, don't do that, lock it down. Both these things are MiTM attack vectors.

An unauthorized WiFi network was detected aboard Delta flight 591, operating from Las Vegas (LAS) to Atlanta (ATL) on Monday. Cabin crew deactivated the aircraft's WiFi for approximately 30 minutes after detecting the rogue network. Delta confirmed no Delta systems were compromised and no aircraft operating systems were affected. "Safety of flight was never in question," Delta stated. The airline confirmed it will partner with federal law enforcement and aviation regulators for a thorough investigation. FBI Atlanta confirmed it is aware of the incident and in contact with local and corporate partners. The flight carried 199 passengers and six crew members. It departed LAS shortly after the conclusion of BSides Las Vegas, Black Hat, and DEF CON — the annual cluster of major cybersecurity conferences held in Las Vegas. Delta has not disclosed how the network was created or by whom. The investigation is ongoing.
