Jason Logan now on the 5th hole at Victoria Golf Club and this is truly one of the great short par fours in Canada right next to the Pacific Ocean. You aren't given lots of room on the right, so you can take a shorter club and and find the fairway and be OK, or you could do more and bomb driver on an aggressive line and try to get up around the green. If you miss with the big stick, however, well that could be disastrous. And even if you're successful, it's no easy up and down for birdie. Given the putting surfaces perched into that hillside and there's lots of steep falloff areas around it, well, there's nothing disastrous about these next 10 courses. Here are #70 to 61. Near Windsor ON, Essex is one of few Donald Ross courses in Canada, and while the land on which it was built is mostly flat, Ross has pushed up. Yet accessible and well contoured greens are the defining characteristics of this course. So too is it's excellent bunkering. The Blue Corset Royal Montreal gets much of the attention as a past RBC Canadian Open and Presidents Cup host, but plenty of club members and guests prefer the red. That course remains largely as **** Wilson laid it out, with small greens and dog leg holes making positioning paramount. A tree removal program helped Burlington better reveal its wonderful land, on which Stanley Thompson laid out a tremendously fun golf course. You've got to be on your game from the jump at Burlington. As the course begins with some stiff challenges. It ends with a par three playing uphill to a clubhouse overlooking Hamilton Harbor. Winnipeg Saint Charles poured $13,000,000 into a recent renovation in part to restore its historic Alistair McKenzie and Donald Ross Nines. Jim Urbina, with help from Riley Johns, did a masterful job bringing the course back to its golden age with the bunkering on the McKenzie 9 in particular. Absolutely spectacular. The Southwestern Ontario course picks up steam by the 5th hole with awesome bunkering, firm turf, gnarly fescue and shapely greens making for a pure golf experience. Brand Mayor near Shawinigan, QC was an early 20th century collaboration between Walter Travis and Hugh Allison. Excellent, rugged bunkering, great greens and plenty of movement in the land make this throwback course a delight. Improvements under the watch of Andy Staples will take this course to another level. Willie Park junior finished what Tom Bendelow started at Royal Ottawa, which will host next year's CPK CP Women's Open. The plunging property on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River boasts several strategic short par fours and outstanding par threes back-to-back. One shot holes occur at #11 and 12, while the closer plays up to the impressive clubhouse. An original Willie Park Junior design that was overhauled by Stanley Thompson and recently restored by Jeff Mingay, Montreal's Beacons Field makes a big jump up the list to 63rd. While the par 315th backed by a 30 foot Rockwall is Beaconsfield signature, the bunkering and superb greens to route make for an enjoyable round. The Valley Course at Bear Mountain Resort has emerged as a favorite between the two Jack and Steve Nicholas courses there. It's subtler than its Mountain Course counterpart, but dramatic thanks to its rocky and wooded terrain. While Rumi off the tee, the course is defended by tier greens and waste bunkering. Abutting the Grand River in Kitchener ON Thomas Mcbroom, Deer Ridge is full of strong holes that culminate in one of the toughest finishing stretches anywhere. The downhill water guarded 16th is a mighty Part 3, while missing the hillside green and the par 518th can be disastrous.
