SOLAR PANELS THAT FOLD THEMSELVES BEFORE THE STORM Researchers at Graz University of Technology have developed FLAPTrack, a dual-axis photovoltaic system that follows the sun while automatically folding into a protected position when hail, strong winds or snow threaten. A patented linear actuator performs two functions: adjusting the panels’ vertical angle and folding their front surfaces together. A belt-driven circular guide rotates the system horizontally. When severe weather approaches, the array closes face-to-face and lies near the ground, reducing wind exposure while shielding the photovoltaic surfaces. An inexpensive hail net can protect the exposed rear sides. A 1.8-kilowatt-peak prototype operating on TU Graz’s Inffeldgasse campus produced nearly 40% more electricity on average than fixed panels, with individual days reaching 56%. During mornings and evenings, it generated more than twice the conventional output because it remained aligned with the low sun. That timing could be commercially important. Electricity demand frequently rises during those periods, while conventional solar output declines. The system may offer additional advantages in winter and at higher latitudes by shedding snow and reducing dust accumulation. Key Takeaways: FLAPTrack combines energy optimization and weather protection within the same mechanical system. The university’s prototype results are promising, but they do not yet establish lifetime economics or performance across different climates. Implications: Commercial success will depend on whether additional electricity and avoided storm damage outweigh installation, maintenance, motor power and component-replacement costs. Long-term testing of wear, wind forces and autonomous forecasting will determine whether this becomes a resilient infrastructure solution or remains a specialized tracker. For years, I thought the energy business was primarily about generating more electricity. After working on projects in different parts of the world, I've come to see it differently. Yes, some regions genuinely need more generation capacity. Growing economies require new power plants, stronger transmission networks, and expanded distribution systems. But in many cases, the bigger challenge isn't simply producing more electricity. It's the infrastructure that delivers, manages, and protects it. Businesses experience outages, voltage fluctuations, rising operating costs, and production losses. Those symptoms are often rooted in infrastructure—aging assets, limited flexibility, poor visibility, or a lack of resilience—not just a shortage of megawatts. That's one of the principles behind what we're building at Xonda. We can help solve both challenges. Whether it's increasing available capacity through distributed energy resources or improving reliability with a smarter, more resilient energy infrastructure, the objective is the same: Keep businesses operating. Because reliable power isn't just about generating electricity. It's about designing infrastructure that delivers the right power, at the right time, under the right conditions. I'm curious... Do you think the biggest challenge facing businesses today is generating more electricity, or building more resilient energy infrastructure? #EnergyInfrastructure #GridResilience #BusinessContinuity #Infrastructure #Microgrids #DistributedEnergy #EnergyTransition #Leadership #HowXondaThinks #Xonda

🛰️ 𝑴𝒐𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒓 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒓: 𝑳𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑷𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓⚡ Energy's future is no longer confined to a single location. Power plants, substations, and lengthy transmission lines are examples of permanent infrastructure that has been essential to the production of electricity for over a century. However, that approach is being challenged by a new generation of portable solar equipment. Imagine a typical shipping container showing up at an off-grid construction site, a distant community, or a disaster area. It transforms into a solar power plant with battery storage and intelligent energy management in a matter of hours. This accomplishment goes beyond engineering. It's a change in our perspective on energy. In situations when existing grids are unavailable, destroyed, or too costly to expand, portable solar systems can minimize reliance on diesel generators, lower fuel transportation costs, and provide clean, dependable electricity. Their modular design also allows multiple units to be connected, creating scalable microgrids that can grow alongside community or operational needs. As climate-related disasters become more frequent and energy security rises on the global agenda, mobility is becoming just as important as generation capacity. Power that can travel means the following: • Faster emergency response • Greater resilience for critical infrastructure • Cleaner energy for remote communities • Flexible electricity for temporary operations • Reduced emissions from off-grid activities The transition to renewable energy is not only about replacing fossil fuels. It is about redesigning energy systems to be more resilient, accessible, and adaptable. The question is no longer how much clean energy we can generate. It is how quickly we can deliver it where it is needed most. Portable solar infrastructure shows that the future of energy is not only renewable—it is mobile, modular, and ready to move with the world's changing needs. ♻️ Repost to spread knowledge. 🤝 Thank you for your support! 👉 Follow Anil Kumar M 👉 Activate the bell 🛎️ for all posts as well as for additional technical and educational content! 💪🏆 #innovation #creativity #technology #letsconnect #futuretech #education #knowledge #topvoice #robotics #AI #automation #engineering #research #science #design #energy #greenenrgy #electricity #powergeneration #renewableenergy #SolarEnergy #EnergyTransition #Microgrids #CleanEnergy #ClimateInnovation #EnergySecurity #Sustainability

Can AI’s growing demand for power coexist with decarbonization? Meta’s recent departure from RE100 highlights a growing reality: renewable energy alone cannot yet reliably meet the 24/7, continuous, and rapidly expanding power needs of AI data centers. For instance, Meta’s planned 5 GW AI data center in Louisiana will be supported by over 5.2 GW of new natural-gas combined-cycle generation. AI power must be available 24/7, respond to rapid load shifts, and scale instantly. Today, gas turbines offer that critical flexibility. So the real question isn't whether data centers need gas turbines—it's what will fuel them in the future? While future hydrogen co-firing is being planned, making turbines hydrogen-ready is only part of the solution. The industry still needs infrastructure that can store clean energy at scale and dynamically supply hydrogen as turbine loads change. This is where AES Tech comes in. We are developing ammoNOVA, a flexible clean-hydrogen supply system based on the electrolysis of anhydrous liquefied ammonia. Instead of storing massive amounts of hydrogen in advance, ammoNOVA produces hydrogen at the point of use, precisely when needed. Key capabilities of ammoNOVA include: > Rapid hydrogen production aligned with turbine start-up > Dynamic flow control that follows real-time power-load changes > Modular expansion to increase co-firing ratios over time > An integrated onsite system spanning ammonia storage, extraction, purification, and supply Moving beyond the lab, AES Tech was selected for a national demonstration project at the Boryeong Hydrogen Turbine Test & Research Center. We will validate our technology under actual gas-turbine operating conditions, gathering data on dynamic load-following, flow stability, and continuous reliability. Achieving true decarbonization requires an integrated pathway: verified clean ammonia supply, flexible onsite extraction, and low-NOx hydrogen turbines. AI’s demand for energy doesn't mean giving up on sustainability. AES Tech is building the missing link between ammonia and hydrogen-powered flexible generation—delivering clean, reliable power for AI data centers and advanced manufacturing. #AESTech #ammoNOVA #Meta #AIDataCenters #CleanHydrogen #AmmoniaToHydrogen #HydrogenTurbine #FlexiblePower #Decarbonization #RE100 #TheMissingLink_in_Hydrogen_Turbine_Cofiring_AESTech_ammoNOVA. https://lnkd.in/gYcvD5FN

The infrastructure reality behind .S. data center expansion is worth paying attention to. A growing body of research points to something the industry doesn't talk about enough: new data centers are being built near fossil fuel infrastructure, not renewable energy sources. The reason is practical, grid capacity constraints and critical equipment delays, especially transformers, are pushing developers toward where power already exists. Nearly half of new projects are reportedly facing delays or cancellations tied to these same supply and infrastructure gaps. The tension here is real. Companies are making clean energy commitments while their physical footprint gets anchored to fossil-dependent grids. That gap creates regulatory exposure, cost volatility, and community friction that won't go away on its own. For the tech and energy sectors, the siting decision is becoming as strategic as the build itself. #datacenter #energyinfrastructure

Subject: Rethinking the grid: Transforming existing power lines into continuous energy generatorsWhat if the high-voltage power lines already cutting across our landscapes could generate clean energy 24/7, without taking up a single square inch of land?I am proud to share that I have officially filed an industrial patent for The Grid Skin. This technology is designed to do exactly that: upgrade existing overhead conductors into continuous thermo-photovoltaic generators. The core of the system relies on a lead-free, self-layering nanostructured coating applied directly to the lines at height using an automated crawler robot. By utilizing advanced quantum dot chemistry, the skin harvests solar energy during the day and ambient infrared heat—including the thermal dissipation naturally caused by the line's Joule effect—throughout the night. To bypass the impossible logistical challenge of adding millions of meters of traditional copper wiring to the grid, the system uses the surface of the existing conductor as a waveguide. The generated power travels via the skin effect directly to the utility poles, where it is collected through non-contact, resonant magnetic induction and routed straight into the grid.Based on our thermodynamics and efficiency models, an initial 100 km pilot section is projected to deliver:14.7 GWh/year of clean electricity injected into the network.2.2 Million Euros in estimated annual revenue based on conservative market rates.A full payback period of just 2.38 years for the grid operator. With the official patent application filed and priority dates legally secured, we are now opening discussions for our first industrial pilot project. We are looking to connect with transmission system operators (TSOs), infrastructure investment funds, and technology partners who want to lead the next phase of the energy transition.Detailed technical documentation and mass balances are ready to be shared with qualified parties under a standard non-disclosure agreement (NDA).If you or your organization are interested in discussing a partnership, feel free to reach out directly here on LinkedIn or via email at rauldamian@gmail.com.

What if roads could generate electricity instead of serving only transportation? This idea inspired the development of solar roads, where photovoltaic panels are built directly into the road surface. Pilot projects in France and the Netherlands have tested whether traffic infrastructure can also produce renewable energy. Although the technology has not yet met all economic expectations, it has provided valuable engineering experience. Researchers have learned how difficult it is to protect solar panels from heavy vehicles, weather conditions and constant wear while maintaining energy production. In the future, solar surfaces may prove more effective in parking areas, cycle paths and other low-traffic locations, where renewable electricity generation and transportation can successfully work together.
