Langer Heinrich recently donated more than 3,400 mathematics, physical science and chemistry textbooks to schools across Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, helping Grade 10–12 learners access essential resources for their studies. By increasing access to these resources, the donation will help support teaching, strengthen educational outcomes and create opportunities for students to succeed in key STEM subjects. Speaking at the event, Langer Heinrich’s Managing Director Armandt Visagie highlighted the important role education plays in shaping Namibia's future. “May these resources support teaching, improve learning outcomes and inspire learners to pursue excellence in these critical subjects."

Since 2024, AAMT's Focus on Maths program has partnered with 70 schools and supported the professional learning of 372 teachers, through locally identified and tailored initiatives to build capacity in maths and numeracy teaching across Australia. These projects have reached over 11,700 students, funded through more than $260k in grants issued to date. Our partner schools range from remote Aboriginal community schools to multi-campus rural school groups and large inner-city primary schools — all united by a commitment to improving maths teaching and learning outcomes for some of our most disadvantaged students. With just over a week left in our current funding round, we'd encourage primary school leaders to consider whether Focus on Maths could support your school's mathematics teaching goals. This round's funding - made possible by a new philanthropic partner - is specifically for primary-level maths and numeracy professional learning initiatives. Applications close on 9 August. Visit our website to see whether your school and project meet our eligibility criteria and to find out how to apply: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gepk-meC #mathseducation #mathedau #FocusonMaths #TeacherPD

IT'S OFFICIAL: Phase 1 of the Center for STEAM Education is complete! Thanks to a pioneering group of Foundational Donors who together gave $120,000, the Center is no longer just an idea. We've fully funded the organizational capacity that lays the foundation for everything that comes next — and we're starting with the people who will use it. Over the next 18 months, as part of our work with the National Science Foundation, we'll enter the co-design phase: working side-by-side with researchers, educators, and families to design the exhibits and programs the Center will hold. Built with our community, not just for it. This phase also sets the stage for the national-level funding that will bring the Center to full scale. In the coming days, we'll be introducing each of the Foundational Donors who made this possible — people who believe in STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) and in creating meaningful opportunities for children to learn through play. Thank you, Springfield — Phase 1 is complete because of you. Now, together, we'll design what comes next. #Kidzeum #SpringfieldIL #STEAMEducation #ChildrensMuseum #NonprofitLeadership This material is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. 2415966. Dear colleagues, Inspired by Professor Laura Lundy's invited lecture at the 78th OMEP World Assembly and Conference on how we, as adults, resist children’s participation, I would like to collect traditional sayings and expressions commonly used in family and educational settings that deny children influence because of their age, maturity, or presumed lack of competence. I am looking for sayings that, directly or indirectly, reinforce adult superiority and convey the message that children should listen rather than question, make decisions, or exercise influence. Examples include: “The egg cannot be wiser than the hen.” “Because I said so.” “Who gave birth to whom—me to you, or you to me?” “You will understand when you are my age.” “As long as you live under my roof, you will do as I say.” Please share similar sayings from your country, language, or cultural context in the comments. Along with the saying, please indicate the country or region it comes from and, where possible, briefly explain its meaning or the context in which it is used. I am interested both in traditional proverbs and in everyday phrases passed down within families, early childhood settings, schools, or communities. Thank you for contributing to this small international collection of the language of adult power.
