2026 was another big year at Origin. More customers chose to electrify their homes, businesses and vehicles and look for smarter ways to manage how they use energy. A quarter of Origin’s customers now generate their own electricity with solar, and home battery installs increased by 90%. We also brought significant grid-scale battery capacity to the market at Eraring and Mortlake. Hear from CEO Frank Calabria on our FY26 highlights and what’s ahead. Last month, we released our 2025 Impact Report, highlighting another year of progress as we continue building a more resilient and affordable clean energy future. We expanded a strong pipeline of solar and energy storage projects designed to help meet growing energy demand while delivering lasting value for local communities. As our development portfolio grows, so does our opportunity to strengthen the grid, support working lands through agrivoltaics, and invest in the communities we serve. Catch Stem's Constantin Junk at the Energy Storage Summit Germany in Berlin (15–16 Sept), presenting "The EMS as the Coordination Layer: Orchestrating Dispatch, Control, and Assets." He will delve into how energy management systems coordinate dispatch, control, and asset performance across utility-scale solar, BESS, and hybrid projects.
On 16 September, I'll be presenting "The EMS as the Coordination Layer: Orchestrating Dispatch, Control, and Assets" — looking at how energy management systems coordinate dispatch, control, and asset performance across utility-scale solar, BESS, and hybrid projects. Proud to represent Stem, Inc. at the event. Looking forward to connecting with the energy storage community in Berlin on 15–16 September. MASSIVE milestone passed‼️ The NEM's small-scale battery fleet has grown from an estimated 1.4 GW to 7.8 GW of power capacity, now exceeding the 7.7 GW of grid-scale battery power capacity (as of June 2026) - al in just one (financial) year! I had missed “big event” as the most reported CHBP stats are raw buffer numbers (>470k), and aggregate storage capacity (>12GWh). That latter stat will pass big Grid BESS later this year! This analysis is a must read, and a (welcome) departure from Modo Energy - Australia’s normal focus on BIG BESS and (supply side) commercial activity in the NEM! The “elephant in the room” is that nearly every single CHBP buffer had rejected, repudiated, “supply side control” (orchestration, coordination, etc. whatever you want to call it) via “VPP” … and those that have (esp to get State subsidies) have joined a model that empowers them … not the VPP operator! This “natural homogeneous consumer behaviour” is providing much needed tension … which will ultimately deliver solid system outcomes including benefits for commercial BESS operations. It’s the “Consumers’ Grid”‼️ Geoff Eldridge Jess Hunt Peter Kilby Brendon Crown Simon English Peter Newland
One year into the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, the NEM's small-scale battery fleet has grown from an estimated 1.4 GW to 7.8 GW of power capacity, now exceeding the 7.7 GW of grid-scale battery power capacity (as of June 2026). As more home batteries charge through the solar peak and discharge into the evening, they are reshaping operational demand. This makes them an increasingly important contributor to tightening price spreads, alongside utility-scale batteries. Our latest analysis examines: - How the subsidy taper is changing adoption rates - Evidence of shifting operational demand across the NEM - Where Modo Energy expects the home battery fleet to reach by 2030 Read the full analysis: https://lnkd.in/geqNbP3k
