🚀 Exciting milestone for ANALISIS-DSC! We're proud to be part of Sterope project, a new Horizon Europe project that will demonstrate how industrial CO₂ emissions can be transformed into sustainable aviation fuels, renewable marine fuels and bio-based chemicals — using green hydrogen and advanced carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technologies. The paper introduces a modular and scalable Water Cyber-Physical System (Water-CPS) framework designed to improve water efficiency in industrial processes. It was a pleasure to help organise and facilitate our 31st Industrial Technology Approval Group (iTAG) meeting at TU Delft as part of Water in Industry 2026. A key takeaway for me was that successful innovation is about much more than technical performance. The discussions reinforced the importance of understanding how technologies perform under real industrial conditions, considering operational practicality, total cost of ownership, and how well solutions integrate into existing processes. Technology assessment is most valuable when grounded in real industrial operating conditions. On 30 June, Isle Group held the 31st Industrial Technology Approval Group (iTAG) meeting at TU Delft, as part of Water in Industry 2026 conference. This was iTAG’s annual in-person session, bringing together industrial peers from sectors including food and beverage, specialty chemicals and oil and gas. The programme featured technology presentations from Air Liquide, VuOxi, Lysion and Cimico, alongside updates from Aquacycl and Liquisens. Throughout the day, discussions focused on the practical factors that determine whether an emerging technology can move towards implementation: • Robustness and operational simplicity • Ability to manage real wastewater variability • Clarity of the technology’s operating window • Total cost of ownership • Validation under industrial operating conditions The session also included an analysis of technology trends and working principles, helping members understand how individual solutions fit within the wider industrial water innovation landscape. iTAG is Isle’s collaborative innovation programme for industrial end-users. Members help shape the technology pipeline, vote on solutions relevant to their priorities, engage directly with technology providers and assess potential applications alongside industry peers and Isle’s technical experts. For industrial companies, it provides a structured way to monitor emerging technologies and reduce the time and uncertainty involved in identifying solutions that could address real site needs. The FASTMOVE project was delivered in partnership with Brunel University of London and the Port of Cromarty Firth. The consortium set out to understand how ammonia could support decarbonisation across the marine sector and to inform the design of a next-generation ammonia combustion engine, positioning the UK at the forefront of low-emission marine propulsion. Dr. Richard Osborne, Ricardo's Global Technical Expert in Sustainable Engines, said: "We're delighted to have led on this project, which will act as a case study to help determine whether ammonia offers a more sustainable solution for the maritime sector. The outcomes will be used to understand the feasibility of developing a single cylinder engine (SCE) to further verify combustion processes. We will also consider potential commercialisation of this technology and the use of ammonia in the future, subject to further studies being undertaken." The Port of Cromarty Firth is proud to have been part of Ricardo and Brunel University of London’s latest project on using ammonia as a clean fuel. This is the third CMDC project the Port has supported, helping us better understand future fuels, safe handling, and what measures are needed to welcome vessels using alternative energy sources 🌿 As a direct outcome of this project, the Port is developing a Port Readiness checklist for multiple clean fuels, including ammonia, to ensure safety and efficiency for future operations. Being involved with highly credible partners like Ricardo and Brunel University demonstrates the Port’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and preparing the Cromarty Firth for the next generation of maritime energy. Delighted to see the FASTMOVE project now published. This study explores the feasibility of ammonia as a future marine fuel and contributes to the ongoing efforts towards decarbonising the maritime sector. It has been a pleasure to collaborate with colleagues from Ricardo and the Port of Cromarty Firth on this important work. Looking forward to further advancing research and innovation in sustainable marine power and low-carbon fuels.
