As the GED Testing Service Conference takes place this week, it’s a timely reminder of just how relevant the GED has become across the world. The way people access education is changing. More individuals are looking for flexible, credible pathways that fit around work, family, financial pressures, and changing life circumstances. The traditional route is not the only route anymore, and the #GED continues to prove that. Every day, we see students who thought they had missed their opportunity for education go on to earn internationally recognised qualifications, gain admission to higher education, and build meaningful careers. The GED is not just a credential. For many, it is a second chance, a confidence builder, and the beginning of a completely new chapter. Its growing global relevance lies in its ability to meet learners where they are while developing the critical thinking, problem-solving, and academic skills needed for success in today’s world. So I’m back from a term of teaching and finally making a dent in a very full B Squared inbox - and Essential Digital Skills is the first thing I've reached for. Being back in the classroom is always a good reminder of why my B Squared work matters: these are adult digital skills standards, but the young people we teach are the adults who'll be using them before too long. The standards now run across five levels - Entry Level 1 - 3, through to Level 1 and Level 2 - giving a much more finely graded picture of progress than the old two-tier system. That makes a real difference for anyone working to build genuine, step-by-step digital confidence, whatever level someone is starting from. Lots of positives - including the fact that the standards weren't produced in a vacuum, but with engagement with a range of stakeholders. If the standards are shaped by people who actually use them, they should be the standards that work. And with that, I'd better get working!

How can we design micro-credentials that genuinely work for adult learners? On 9 September, the Erasmus+ L2L MicroCred project will bring together colleagues from Ireland, Italy, Norway and Australia for our final international seminar: Inclusive Micro-Credentials – Lessons from the L2L Journey.
