Patients undergoing mastectomy with immediate implant-based breast reconstruction are traditionally observed in the hospital overnight. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols have raised interest in whether same-day discharge can provide comparable outcomes while reducing hospital stay. A randomized controlled trial published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery found that same-day discharge was safe and achieved comparable clinical outcomes and patient experiences without increasing postoperative complications.
