In late June, we celebrated the promotions of Deputy Chief Jim Ball, Lieutenant John Stewart, and Sergeant Matthew Burkett. Deputy Chief Ball has been in law enforcement for 26 years, where he has served many roles such as Patrol Officer, SWAT Officer, Detective, Task Force Officer, Field Training Officer, Crime Analyst, Patrol Sergeant, Drone Pilot, Department Instructor, and, most recently, a Lieutenant on Patrol. Lt. Stewart has been with FMPD since 2016. During his tenure with the department, he has served as a Patrol Officer, Bicycle Officer, SWAT Operator, Financial Crimes Detective, Task Force Officer, Fitness & Wellness Instructor, Taser Instructor, and Criminal Investigations Sergeant. Sgt. Burkett began his career with FMPD in 2018. He serves multiple roles in the department such as a Police Training Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and is an Entry Team Member & Sniper for the SWAT team.
