What does it really take to turn breakthrough research into a venture? A couple weeks ago, we brought together a group of researchers and serial entrepreneurs & operators for our DEEP Pioneers offsite. Not a retreat, a place where ideas and people are fully explored. Over 48 hours, we saw our participants engage in deep discussions about technologies and markets, as well as values and ways of working. Because high-performing deep tech founding teams need both: a team grounded in strong relationships, aligned values, and clear communication, and a technology that meets the needs of its customers. One of the biggest challenges for researchers on their way into entrepreneurship is finding the right person to become their co-founder, their partner, on the journey. In fact, only around 3% of researchers take this leap, precisely because it is difficult to do. This is exactly where DEEP Pioneers comes in. We match top-tier research and IP with experienced entrepreneurs & operators to build scalable teams, fast, early, and right. What stood out during the offsite wasn’t the ideas alone, but the mindset: -A willingness to engage deeply with uncertainty -The openness to share unfinished work and ask a lot of questions -And the commitment to build something impactful together It’s not for everyone, and that’s intentional. We work with a highly selective group of serial founders and entrepreneurial researchers who are serious about turning breakthrough technology into scalable ventures. The next cohort is coming up. If you’re developing breakthrough research and want to explore its path to real-world impact, find the application link in the comments section. What’s been your experience navigating the gap between research and entrepreneurship? #teambuilding #deeptech #commercialisation
