Excerpt: “A study of 133 AI systems found that 44 per cent demonstrated gender bias and 26 per cent demonstrated both gender and racial bias. Yet only 51 per cent of marketers currently use human oversight to test AI-generated creative before release.”

AI is already shaping the world we live in, and I find it fascinating. The question is no longer whether we should embrace it, but whether we will help shape it responsibly. Reading the latest findings from UN Women is a powerful reminder that AI is not neutral. When trained on biased data and developed without diverse perspectives, it risks reinforcing gender stereotypes, excluding marginalized communities, and amplifying existing inequalities. As gender specialists, we cannot afford to see AI as "someone else's field" or as a technology reserved for younger generations or technical experts. It is becoming part of the systems, policies and decisions that affect millions of lives. If we want those systems to be equitable, our expertise must be part of their design. We need to learn how to use AI critically and responsibly—but we also need to contribute to building it better. Gender equality, inclusion and human rights should not be afterthoughts in AI governance; they must be embedded from the very beginning. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #GenderEquality #ResponsibleAI #Innovation #DigitalInclusion #HumanRights #WomenInTech

According to UN Women, 44% of AI systems studied show gender bias. 1 in 5 sentence completions starting with a person's gender came back sexist or misogynistic. And 1 in 4 women human rights defenders experienced AI-assisted online violence. This is what happens when only 24 of 138 countries mention gender in their national AI strategies, and when women make up just 30% of the global AI workforce. As one researcher put it: AI models "pull bias from decades of text written by people, about people, in a world where women were filed under home and family, and men were filed under business and career." The systems reflect who built them, and who didn't get a seat at the table. Report and sources are linked in comments. #ResponsibleAI #GenderEquity #WomenInTech #AIPolicy

Artificial intelligence is popular, but research indicates it repeats existing gender stereotypes and amplifies online abuse. These issues could make women face additional risks.

#AI "nudifying" apps are the new face of gender-based violence, and a stark reminder that we must use #AIForGood — not harm. #NoExcuse
A photo. A few clicks. A fake nude image online, without her consent. This is happening to women and girls right now — at scale. Deepfake videos online surged 550% between 2019 and 2023. Nearly all of them are non-consensual. Nearly all of them target women. This is gender-based violence, powered by technology. #AI "nudifying" apps are the new face of gender-based violence, and a stark reminder that we must use #AIForGood — not harm. #NoExcuse

Are we really doing the right thing, and why are we still failing? 🔍 When it comes to women's safety and legal justice in India, public discourse is louder than ever. Yet, the systemic mechanics of safety remain fractured. We see a volatile, bidirectional "gender war" playing out on social media every day, driven by algorithms that financially profit from outrage and mutual blame. But what is the real-world cost of this digital radicalization? And how do we move past the noise? I have put together a research prospectus titled "The Algorithmic Crucible," which looks past emotional slogans to focus purely on objective, data-backed systemic solutions. The paper addresses: The structural bottleneck caused by the lack of female representation in law enforcement (currently lagging at ~12% vs a 33% benchmark). The rising vulnerability to legal asymmetry and the empirical reality of multi-gender criminal profiles. The urgent need for strict, codified statutory penalties for malicious prosecution to maintain the integrity of our legal system. Check out the full framework below. I'm highly interested to hear your thoughts on how we can better balance tech regulation and judicial equilibrium in India. #ResearchProposal #LegalScholar #DigitalGovernance #IndiaLegalFramework 👇🏻 👇🏻 👇🏻 👇🏻 👇🏻 👇🏻

When Steve Jobs famously said that he wasn’t letting his kids use these devices, that should have been the red flag.
New research from Common Sense Media shows how mainstream AI-generated sexual content has become among teens: nearly 75% have seen online porn, and almost 20% have created AI-generated sexual content or know someone who has. Riana Pfefferkorn puts it well in CNN's coverage: platforms' "whack-a-mole" moderation "hasn't really been enough to keep up" and this is "a society issue" involving schools, families, platforms, and policymakers alike, not something kids should be left to handle alone. https://lnkd.in/gHMDeWWW
