Another success story in advanced industrial wastewater treatment! We are proud to share the successful completion of a challenging project together with Vicor Corporation in Andover, Massachusetts 🇺🇸 — a global leader in high-density power conversion technologies. The challenge - Vicor uses an evaporator to treat production wastewater with a TOC of approximately 1000 mg/L and to recycle the resulting distillate. For reuse in the process, a maximum TOC concentration of 50 mg/L in the distillate is required, while levels around 10 mg/L are preferred to ensure optimal product quality. However, certain organic compounds were passing through the evaporator and contaminating the distillate. This resulted in severe downstream operational issues, with TOC concentrations in the distillate reaching levels of up to 750 mg/L. Consequences: - Production instability - High product rejection rates - Expensive distillate and concentrate disposal - Significant financial impact The solution - developed in record time - Vicor partnered with enviolet to find a reliable and sustainable solution. In close cooperation, we designed and implemented a compact UV-oxidation pre-treatment system that integrates seamlessly into Vicor’s existing process – despite tight space constraints. Results at a glance: - Organic elimination prior to evaporation - Distillate quality improved to TOC < 1 mg/L - Reuse in production now safely possible, resulting in lowest reject rates - Treatment capacity 1–2 m³/h - Optimization phase completed and system fully operational to support a stable, efficient production This project is a great example of what can be achieved when pragmatic partners find each other to solve a problem. Personally, I like this case because it’s a perfect example of the fact that there isn’t just this one single technology. The best results are always achieved through a smart combination of the right technologies, and this can vary from case to case.
