In line with Great Green Wall initiative, Ethiopia committed to restore 13.2 million hectares across 58 woredas, focusing on restoring degraded arid and semi-arid lands while aligning with the Climate-Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy and the Green Legacy Initiative. Ethiopia managed to restored over 1 million hectares of degraded land, established windbreaks, and produced billions of seedlings to combat desertification, protect soils, and improve watershed management.

🌳20 countries UNITED against desertification 🌍 Known as the Great Green Wall, this initiative aims to restore 100 million Ha of degraded land, improve food security, create millions of green jobs, and help communities adapt to climate change. Launched in 2007, the project is about much more than planting trees it focuses on rebuilding ecosystems, supporting local farmers, and creating a more sustainable future for millions of people. Challenges remain, but millions of hectares have already been restored, proving that large-scale environmental change is possible when countries work together. A powerful reminder that restoring nature can transform lives.

This World Environment Day, we asked our colleagues to take one positive action for the planet.   The response was a reminder that environmental stewardship doesn't always start with large-scale initiatives.    Sometimes, it begins with planting a tree, creating space for biodiversity, reducing waste, conserving resources, or making a simple change in our daily routines.   Across our teams, colleagues shared inspiring examples of the steps they are taking to support a healthier environment—demonstrating that collective action is built through individual choices.   We are pleased to share some of these initiatives and celebrate the people behind them.   Thank you to everyone who participated and helped bring this year's theme, "Inspired by Nature.
