Electric crane powers Suburban Rail Loop East with zero diesel emissions As part of Suburban Connect, we've introduced a 250-tonne electric crawler crane at Heatherton West to support tunnel-boring works on Melbourne’s Suburban Rail Loop East. This move is cutting emissions, reducing noise and improving air quality while ensuring efficient delivery of complex infrastructure. The crane, one of the largest electric plant items on the project, is expected to save around 9,000 litres of diesel during its operation. Connected directly to mains power and supported by GreenPower-certified electricity, it eliminates exhaust fumes and minimises battery charging needs, benefiting both workers and nearby communities. Electrical infrastructure installed for the crane has been designed with future tunnelling activities in mind, creating long-term value beyond its current role. This approach reflects ACCIONA’s focus on practical, scalable solutions that reduce environmental impact while maintaining performance on major projects. The crane from Select Plant Australia Pty Ltd is part of a broader electrification program across Suburban Rail Loop East. Initiatives include electric pool vehicles supplied by Indigenous-owned Bunji Hire, solar-powered site facilities saving over 30,000 litres of fuel, and battery energy storage systems cutting generator runtime by 82%. Together, these measures have already avoided significant carbon emissions and improved site conditions for crews and communities. By integrating electric plant and renewable energy into construction, ACCIONA is helping deliver a vital transport link for Melbourne while accelerating the transition to lower-emissions infrastructure. #ACCIONAteam #BusinessAsUnusual #SustainableInfrastructure #ElectricConstruction #RenewableEnergy

Our 250-tonne electric crawler crane has been hard at work on Melbourne's Suburban Rail Loop East project with ACCIONA. It's great to see not only its heavy lifting capabilities being recognised, but also the positive environmental impact it is delivering through reduced emissions, lower noise levels and improved air quality on site. Thank you to ACCIONA for highlighting these benefits and for partnering with us to support more sustainable infrastructure outcomes.

Great case for Aboriginal business expending opportunities and creating synergy between enviromental sustianbaility and social sustainability. It will make the concept of "sustainability" more sustainable, especially, financially sustainable. Keep up the good work. looking forward to seeing more social benefit suppliers start to provide carbon neutral or low emission products and services.

Electric construction equipment is growing up. It's not just about emissions anymore. It's about lower operating costs, quieter worksites, operational flexibility, and new opportunities in urban and noise-sensitive projects. Volvo's new EWR150 Electric excavator is another example of how quickly construction equipment is evolving. The machines are arriving. The next challenge is developing practical power strategies to keep them working productively in the field. 🇦🇺 ✨ The countdown to #tunnelling is on! A major milestone has been reached on the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East Project, with the first two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) successfully lowered into the launch shaft at Burwood. These engineering giants, which stretch more than 100 metres in length and just over seven metres in diameter, have been purpose-built to excavate the project's northern twin tunnels. The pair will soon begin their journey south towards Glen Waverley, while a further two machines will later tunnel north to Box Hill. Powered using 100% renewable electricity from Yurringa Energy, Australia’s first Indigenous-owned energy retailer, all four TBMs reflect the project's commitment to delivering more sustainable infrastructure. The lowering of the first TBMs marks the transition from site preparation to tunnelling, bringing Melbourne one step closer to a faster, more connected rail network. #Webuild, as part of the Terra Verde Joint Venture, is delivering almost 10 kilometres of parallel tunnels between the future Box Hill and Glen Waverley stations, along with 39 cross passages, two station boxes, two TBM launch sites, and an intervention and ventilation shaft for the Suburban Rail Loop East Project. #webuildgroup #infrastructure #Australia #SuburbanRailLoop #Melbourne #TBM Clough

When conventional compaction isn’t enough, impact rolling provides a fast and effective solution for improving ground conditions across large areas. Using high-energy dynamic compaction, an impact roller helps: • Increase ground density at greater depths than conventional rollers. • Identify soft spots before they become costly construction issues. • Improve bearing capacity and reduce the risk of future settlement. • Increase productivity on bulk earthworks, industrial sites and subdivision projects. From greenfield developments and road construction to renewable energy projects and large-scale infrastructure, impact rolling provides valuable assurance that the foundation beneath your project is performing as intended. #CivilConstruction #Earthworks #GroundImprovement #Infrastructure #Subdivision #RoadConstruction #Compaction #CivilEngineering #Construction #SouthAustralia
