The Lion and the Mouse. A month ago at VivaTech, we discussed why some corporations successfully scale innovation with startups while others remain stuck in endless pilots. For years, large organizations optimized for predictability, control and risk mitigation whereas startups optimized for speed, experimentation and learning. AI is changing that balance. When the cost of experimentation drops, agility becomes a competitive advantage. This does not mean ignoring governance, security or operating discipline but building organizations capable of managing risk while moving faster. That is why the partnership between large and small matters more than ever. Large enterprises bring data, scale, customer access and industry expertise. Startups bring speed, creativity and the ability to explore new territories. Together, they combine the best of both worlds. As we concluded during the panel: "We often need someone smaller than ourselves." As chipmakers stack layers of silicon to pack in more power, billions of tiny connections link those layers together, and until now, there has been no way to check that all of them actually work. The default for deep-tech startups is stealth. Build quietly, validate privately, launch when the product is polished. I understand the logic. But for Carbon3, stealth would be the wrong call, and here's why: The problem we are solving - Scope 3 data infrastructure for enterprise supply chains - is an industry-level problem, not just a company-level problem. The GHG Protocol frameworks are being refined. The CSRD assurance standards are still being developed. CARB is still finalising SB-253 implementation guidance. Building Carbon3 in isolation, without active engagement with the practitioners, compliance leads, and supply chain leaders who are living this problem in real time, would mean building for a world that does not fully exist yet. Design Partners are not early customers in the traditional sense. They are co-architects of a product category. The enterprises that engage with us now will help shape what Scope 3 decision intelligence looks like - not just for Carbon3, but for the broader compliance infrastructure being built in parallel with the regulatory environment.
