“Although seventeen bio‑based polymers are commercially available, they represent only ~1% of the global plastics market and account for just 4–5% of biogenic carbon in the EU chemical sector,” says a report by nova‑Institut, prepared on behalf of the European Commission, which assesses the role of bio‑based feedstocks in plastic packaging under the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). A busy few days ahead on Europe’s #circulareconomy calendar—worth a look if you’re tracking where policy meets implementation. The CCRI hands-on online workshop from yesterday focused on “unlocking circular incentives,” a practical session for cities and regions working on delivery, procurement, budgeting and KPIs.  Today, our MD Joachim Quoden at EXPRA - Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance participated in the European Commission’s High-Level Dialogue on the #Circular #Economy #Act, chaired by Executive Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné and Commissioner Jessika Roswall. This was a highly significant moment. With only around 20 leading Brussels-based industry associations invited, EXPRA’s participation reflects the growing recognition of the role that #Extended #Producer #Responsibility systems must play in shaping Europe’s circular economy framework. A key message from the discussion was clear: harmonisation alone is not enough. For the #Circular #Economy #Act to deliver, #common #EU #minimum #requirements must be properly implemented and enforced across all 27 Member States. EXPRA - Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance highlighted that Europe already knows many of the #best #EPR #practices. The real challenge is applying them #consistently. #Eco-#modulation is a clear example: although mandatory for more than three years, it is still implemented in only a limited number of Member States. The dialogue also showed that several of EXPRA’s long-standing priorities are gaining wider support across the policy landscape, including #stronger and #enforceable #EPR #minimum #requirements, greater #transparency, earmarking of #EPR #fees, and #clearer #responsibilities for online sales and platforms. EXPRA is proud to bring the practical experience of its members to this debate and to help keep producer responsibility at the heart of an effective Circular Economy Act. The Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye held an introductory meeting at Swissôtel The Bosphorus, Istanbul, with Radu Mares, Associate Professor and Head of Business and Human Rights Thematic Area, and İpek Benek, Programme Officer, Türkiye at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI), marking the launch of the ''Corporate Engagement Programme for Swedish Companies and Their Major Suppliers'' in Türkiye. This initiative, part of the broader project on The European Green Deal and EU–Türkiye Trade, aims to support Swedish companies in navigating the evolving landscape of EU sustainability regulations — including human rights and environmental due diligence, ESG standards, and sustainability reporting frameworks. As Türkiye continues to play a critical role in EU-linked value chains, strengthening awareness, capacity, and peer learning on responsible business conduct becomes increasingly essential.
