Company Description Soofa is a sustainable technology company founded in 2014 out of the MIT Media Lab, focused on solar-powered communication tools for cities and advertisers. Its Soofa Signs are installed in over 57 cities across the U.S., providing high-traffic, data-rich, and real-time messaging platforms for brands and municipalities. The company partners with organizations of all sizes, from major brands like Blue Man Group, RedBull, New England Revolution, and Wayfair to local businesses, to advance environmentally conscious advertising. Cities such as Boston, Atlanta, and Miami use Soofa Signs to share urgent updates and community news through a neighborhood news feed that fosters engagement. Soofa’s team of engineers, designers, and problem-solvers is based in Cambridge, MA and other locations worldwide, united by a commitment to creating impactful urban experiences.
Role Description The Director of Operations is a full-time, remote role owning field operations, supply chain, and logistics for our physical signage network across 60+ cities — plus general operations as the business needs it. This is a hands-on, working-manager role, not a pure strategy seat, at least at first.
We're especially interested in candidates from adjacent physical-install industries — solar installation, EV charging network operations, telecom/cable field service, digital kiosk or vending networks, security system installation — even without smart-city or advertising background specifically. If you've managed a distributed install-and-maintenance network and coordinated vendors at scale, this role will feel familiar.
This role is genuinely tech- and AI-forward, not traditional ops management. You'll be building and running AI-assisted workflows and automation (not just approving them from a distance), partnering directly with our engineers on tooling. If you're coming from a legacy field-service background where "ops" means spreadsheets and phone calls, this isn't the right fit — we're looking for someone who's already comfortable with modern software and genuinely curious about what AI agents can take off a team's plate.
What you'll do
Manage our field operations function and build the plan to scale/automate it over time
Own supply chain and logistics for hardware — coordinating with component suppliers and installation vendors across our city network
Take on general operations broadly — this role's scope is deliberately wider than field ops alone
Build and run AI-assisted workflows and automation directly, partnering with engineering on tooling — this is hands-on, not delegated
What we're looking for
5+ years in operations, supply chain, or logistics leadership, ideally with a physical/hardware product
Track record managing vendor relationships and a field service or installation network
Genuinely comfortable with modern software and AI tools — actively uses them today, not just open to learning
Comfortable being a hands-on, working manager
