Location : Cary, NC (Onsite/Hybrid from Day 1)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Data Analyst with strong experience in Underwriting, Risk, or Actuarial domains to support data analysis, source system assessment, and enterprise data initiatives. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with complex data environments, performing source data analysis, developing source-to-target mappings, and partnering with business stakeholders to drive data quality and data transformation efforts.

Candidates with 10+ years of experience are preferred; however, candidates with fewer years of experience will be considered if they possess strong hands-on experience in Underwriting, Risk Management, or Actuarial functions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze source systems and understand data structures, business rules, and data relationships.
  • Perform detailed source data analysis to support data integration, migration, and reporting initiatives.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive Source-to-Target Mapping (STTM) documents.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders, Underwriters, Risk teams, and Technology teams to gather and document data requirements.
  • Validate data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across multiple systems.
  • Develop complex SQL queries for data analysis, profiling, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Analyze data quality issues and recommend remediation strategies.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Architects, and Business Analysts on data transformation initiatives.
  • Support data governance, metadata management, and data lineage activities.
  • Document business rules, transformation logic, and data mapping requirements.
  • Participate in data migration, modernization, and analytics projects.


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience in Data Analysis, Data Warehousing, Data Management, or related disciplines.
  • Strong experience in Underwriting, Risk Management, or Actuarial domains.
  • Expertise in Source Data Analysis and Source System Analysis.
  • Extensive experience creating Source-to-Target Data Mapping documentation.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL for data analysis, validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of data models, data relationships, and data transformation concepts.
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets across multiple source systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Experience translating business requirements into data requirements and technical specifications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Data Warehousing and Data Integration projects.
  • Experience with data quality, data governance, and metadata management initiatives.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and enterprise reporting platforms.
  • Experience working in Agile project environments.
