Position Summary


The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the day-to-day accounting operations and the integrity of the general ledger across the organization’s entities. This role owns significant portions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, helps maintain internal controls, and ensures financial records are accurate, timely, and compliant with U.S. GAAP. The Assistant Controller partners closely with operations, treasury, and external parties (auditors, lenders, and tax advisors), and steps in for the Controller as needed. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who is both technically strong and dependable in meeting deadlines and communicating status.


Key Responsibilities


  • Close & general ledger
  • Own and drive the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close to established deadlines, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts across multiple entities; prepare and review intercompany and elimination entries for consolidation.
  • Review reconciliations and analyses prepared by staff, ensuring variances are researched and resolved.
  • Reporting & compliance
  • Prepare and review internal financial statements and management reporting packages; provide variance analysis and commentary.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulatory and tax requirements; assist with technical accounting research and documentation.
  • Support lender and debt-related reporting, including information requests from agents and creditors.
  • Controls & operations
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and documented procedures.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll accounting functions and related staff.
  • Administer and optimize the ERP / accounting system (e.g., NetSuite), improving workflows, reporting, and automation.
  • Audit, tax & external relationships
  • Serve as a contact for external auditors; prepare schedules and support the annual audit and any reviews.
  • Coordinate with tax advisors and support the preparation of information for tax filings.
  • Support treasury activities, cash reporting, and relationships with banks and lending agents.
  • Leadership
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff; review work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Proactively communicate status, risks, and delays to the Controller and leadership; escalate issues before deadlines are missed.
  • Act on behalf of the Controller during absences and take on special projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle close and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience with a mid-market ERP (NetSuite strongly preferred) and advanced spreadsheet skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and communicate proactively.
  • Supervisory or team-lead experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA
  • Experience with multi-entity consolidations and intercompany eliminations.
  • Exposure to debt/credit facilities, covenant reporting, or a leveraged environment.
  • Public accounting background and/or industry experience in [relevant sector].

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Primarily an office / hybrid environment with standard business hours; extended hours may be required during close, audit, and reporting periods. Prolonged periods of computer use.
