Our Y branches celebrated Spirit Week from August 10 to 15, and this year’s theme, “Year of Connections,” brought out the best kind of energy! 🎉 Our staff showed up with plenty of enthusiasm and found lots of opportunities to strengthen connections and build new ones through wellness activities, creative projects, friendly competition, and more. During Spirit Week and beyond, we celebrate the people who make the Y a welcoming and vibrant community.

Our fifth annual Golf & Gala brought together leaders from media, advertising, real estate, and construction—and together, we raised more than $850,000 to expand access to afterschool programs, summer camp scholarships, college and career readiness, and other life-changing Y programs! Congratulations to our outstanding honorees, Maureen Bosetti of Omnicom Media Group and Theodora Diamantis of Skanska USA, whose leadership and commitment to community inspire us all. Thank you to our exceptional Golf & Gala Committee, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and everyone who made this achievement possible. And a special thank you to our Platinum & Gold Level Sponsors: Skanska, Allen Media Group, AT&T, Rumble, Turner Construction Company, Comcast Advertising, FreeWheel, Consigli Construction Co., Inc., Ennell Group Electric Corp., Paramount Advertising, and Warner Bros. FIFA World Cup 2026™ may be over, but the passion for soccer remains strong! We are truly grateful for the ways FIFA World Cup 26™ New York New Jersey and Airbnb provided memorable soccer experiences for Y youth. That included a special screening of the semi-final match between France and Spain at a local Regal movie theatre!
Absolute cinema. 🎥⚽️ Alongside @airbnb, we brought out our friends at @southbronxunited and @ymcanyc to watch the semi-finals on the big screen! 🇫🇷🇪🇸 Thank you to @regalmovies Concourse in the Bronx for hosting us! 🙌 #WeAreNYNJ #WeAre26 #Somos26 #FIFAWorldCup

Every day inside the Y, kids learn game fundamentals that can lead to a lifetime of passion for soccer. We are truly grateful for our continued partnerships with the U.S. Soccer Foundation and FIFA World Cup 26™ New York New Jersey that provided unforgettable opportunities for our youth this year!
Three years ago, the U.S. Soccer Foundation and FIFA World Cup 26™ New York New Jersey set out with a shared vision: to ensure the FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States would leave a lasting impact long after the tournament came to a close. Together, we worked to make that vision a reality. From announcing our legacy goals in Times Square alongside the unveiling of the New York/New Jersey World Cup logo, to launching Yes, Coach! at SXSW and expanding coach-mentor training opportunities across the region, every milestone was rooted in the same goal: creating more opportunities for young people through soccer. Together, we opened mini-pitches across New York and New Jersey, welcomed hundreds of youth players onto the field at MetLife Stadium, and partnered on community events like the Just Ball Unity Cup that celebrated the power of soccer to bring people together. While the tournament may be over, the work continues. The Foundation is proud to carry this legacy forward by continuing to invest in safe places to play, expanding free soccer programming, and training coach-mentors who will help shape the next generation across the region. Thank you to Alex Lasry, Lauren Nathan-LaRusso, Bruce Revman, and the entire New York New Jersey Host Committee team for believing that the greatest legacy of the World Cup would be measured not only by what happened inside the stadiums, but by what continues to happen in communities for years to come. We're grateful to have built this legacy together, and even more excited for what's next!

Thank you, Airbnb! We are truly grateful for the magical experience of attending a FIFA World Cup 2026™ game that you gave to our Y youth ⚽️ ❤️
New York is ready for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ finals! In partnership with 17 organizations across New York and New Jersey, we brought 1,000 young soccer fans from local communities together to cheer on their favorite teams in person. For these young people, this was more than a match: it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment to see the world's game in their own backyard.

Every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, friendship, and confidence that summer camp brings. Thanks to our partnership with the Lisa Beth Gerstman Foundation, the YMCA of Greater New York offers inclusion camps at 13 Y locations, ensuring that hundreds of children of all abilities can share in the magic of camp each summer. Lisa Beth Gerstman loved summer camp. After her tragic passing at age 11, her family created a lasting legacy by helping generations of young people experience the same sense of belonging and adventure that camp gave her. Thank you to the Lisa Beth Gerstman Foundation and our friends at Home Depot, including Steven Lent, for spending time with us this week and visiting three of our inclusion camps. We are so grateful for your generosity and for making these life-changing camp experiences possible.

Like many New Yorkers, we're reveling in the excitement surrounding FIFA World Cup 2026™! Last week, Y teens from our Vanderbilt branch were honored to be invited to a game of pick-up soccer hosted by Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion. The teens enjoyed participating in friendly competition with the mayor, and were equally excited to meet Italian professional player Mario Balotelli! We're truly grateful for this invitation from the mayor's office, and we love providing our teens with surprising opportunities to deepen their love for the game.

College access. It starts inside at the Y! On June 17, we hosted our 2026 College Decision Day at John Jay College (CUNY), celebrating 85 YMCA Rowe Scholar teens on their way to higher education. Our Rowe Scholars program is a free, citywide initiative that equips teens with comprehensive college and career guidance. At this year’s College Decision Day, 13 Rowe Scholars were awarded nearly $75,000 in scholarships. Special thanks to our scholarship funders who help Y youth succeed: Karl and Mary Ellen von der Heyden, Richard Wasserman, Richard Vogt, Deloitte, Macy’s, the Visionaries Inspiring Dreams and Ambitions (VIDA) Awards and Golf & Gala committee members, and our President and CEO Sharon Greenberger.
