As America marks its 250th anniversary, we're reminded that our nation's promise remains unfinished—and that building a more just future is work we all share. We can and must create a society that works for all. One where everyone can thrive, and the only way forward is together. We're proud to support and stand with partners like Next250, One Fair Wage, and the Living Wage for All campaign to help build an economy rooted in dignity, fairness, and shared prosperity. Read our CEO Dr. Gislaine Ngounou, Ed.L.D.'s reflection and sign #Next250's Declaration of Interdependence to join the movement working to ensure that America's future is defined by connection, belonging, and a nation where everyone can participate and reach their full potential. https://lnkd.in/eW2ps9Wx #America250 #Next250 #LivingWage #Equity #Philanthropy

As Pride Month comes to a close, we're reflecting on the words and legacy of Marsha P. Johnson, whose vision of dignity, belonging, and humanity continues to inspire movements for equity today. We're grateful to work alongside partners like The Children of Marsha P. Johnson and Equality CT, whose leadership helps create more inclusive communities across Connecticut. Their work reminds us that advancing opportunity means ensuring every person is seen, valued, and able to thrive. This Pride Month, we celebrate the people, partnerships, and shared commitment that continue moving us toward a more equitable future.

What happens when a "universal" program isn't built with equity in mind? Too often, the families with the most resources and information end up benefiting first, while the families who need it most get left navigating waitlists, service deserts, or inconsistent quality. Connecticut's new Early Childhood Education Endowment has real potential, but equity must be at the forefront. Education leader, Mary Peniston, and our Director of Educational Strategy and Program, Dr. William (Billy) Johnson, explore these necessities in a recent op-ed. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e4W5rp3n #EarlyChildhoodEducation #Equity #PublicPolicy

This Teacher Appreciation Month, we've been celebrating the educators who show up every day for their students and the organizations that make that work possible. At the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund, we believe that supporting teachers is one of the most direct paths to educational equity. But that support has to be real, sustained, and multidimensional. That means investing across the full arc of a teacher's career and practice: 🔹 Preparation and pipeline — Organizations like Relay Graduate School of Education are strengthening the pathways that bring skilled, committed educators into classrooms and help them grow throughout their careers. 🔹 Anti-racist practice and reflection — Through Anti-Racist Teaching & Learning Collective, educators come together to examine their assumptions, refine their practice, and build learning environments where every student belongs. 🔹 Voice and advocacy — Teachers are experts in what their students need. Educators for Excellence Connecticut ensures that expertise shapes policy, helping teachers organize, lead, and advocate for the profession and the students they serve. These are just a few of the partners we're proud to work alongside. Our full network of education partners reflects the breadth of what it truly takes to support teachers and build equity in Connecticut's classrooms. Equity in education isn't just about what happens for students. It's about whether teachers — especially those doing the hardest, most transformative work — have the community, tools, and power they need to succeed. We're proud to support partners who understand that. And we're grateful for every educator who keeps showing up. #TeacherAppreciation #EducationEquity #Equity #AntiRacistEducation #TeacherLeadership #Education

As graduation season comes to a close, we're so proud to celebrate our own Akia S. Callum, J.D., M.Ed., who has just graduated from University of Connecticut School of Law! 🎓 Akia is an incredible part of our team as a Senior Program Officer, working every day to advance equity in education, and now brings even more expertise and passion to that mission. The world needs more advocates with both the heart and the legal tools to fight for what's right, and we know Akia will do exactly that! Congratulations, Akia! We can't wait to see everything you do next. ✨ #LawSchoolGrad #EquityInEducation #TeamSpotlight #Congratulations

We’re proud to support investment partner Illumen Capital and their work investing in diverse venture managers and addressing bias in capital allocation. This short video captures why expanding access to capital is not only important for equity, but also for innovation and long-term value creation. https://lnkd.in/ebWcW9T8 #ImpactInvesting

We support and partner with organizations that help make it possible for teachers to be that champion, through community, advocacy, and preparation. Teachers shouldn’t have to do this work alone. Today and every day, we honor and celebrate educators who see their students, believe in them, and keep showing up. #TeacherAppreciationWeek #EducationEquity

Last week, WCGMF team members Gislaine Ngounou, Ed.L.D., Dr. William (Billy) Johnson, Calondra McArthur and trustees Constance Royster and Anna Blanding had the privilege of joining many peers and partners at ABFE. A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities' annual Harambee Conference. It's the largest gathering of Black professionals in organized philanthropy and we left energized by the power of community and shared purpose. We’re especially grateful for the connections made and the wisdom shared across the field. Meaningful experiences like this remind us that progress happens in community—and that collaboration is essential to moving justice forward. We look forward to building on we learned and continuing to support and partner with others to advance opportunity and impact. #ABFE #Harambee #Community #RacialEquity

The Board Chair–CEO relationship sets the tone for an organization—the “seed from which everything else grows.” It’s a relationship that requires intentionality and cultivation. In a recent conversation with On-Ramps, our CEO, Gislaine Ngounou, Ed.L.D., and Board Chair, Lisa Graustein, shared how they make the relationship work. Building trust and naming the dynamics that shape it is essential and requires intention. Lisa and Gislaine approach this by: ✨Seeing each other as humans. Making space for the personal, checking in on each other as people, and resisting the pull toward pure productivity. ✨Honest, two-way feedback. Weekly check-ins and quarterly retreats begin with a personal check-in and regularly include a direct question: How are we working together, and what do we need to adjust? ✨Confidentiality and grace. Trust requires knowing the person across from you will meet you with curiosity rather than judgment. ✨Having each other’s back. “Trust is born of an understanding that we share values and an ultimate aim, even if holding different perspectives on tactics at times—and that we give each other truth, grace, and love.” They also nurture the relationship through intentional structures: ✨Weekly or biweekly check-ins. Protected time with room to pivot when things get busy. ✨Quarterly retreats. Time to step back, assess how the relationship is functioning, and think strategically. ✨Debriefing new things. After trying something for the first time, they check in: How did that go? How did it land? Could I have done that better? ✨Moments of joy and acknowledgment. Shared moments of creativity and connection can shift energy, strengthen relationships, and draw people in. Read more: https://lnkd.in/evBHutzp
